University choices for Economics

Currently I have Warwick, Durham, Nottingham, Leeds and UEA as my options however I'm debating between Manchester and Leeds, and between York and UEA. I'm also not particularly confident in getting offers from warwick or durham, I'm predicted A*A*A in econ, physics and maths (trying to get maths up but not sure), with average GCSEs (9888776664). Taking TMUA next week and I'm scoring between 5.5-6ish, which I'm not too sure will be particularly beneficial for either. I think I have a pretty decent personal statement but so does everyone. I'm debating between taking Warwick out for Manchester (due to not thinking I'll get an offer), or swapping Leeds for manchester and/or swapping between york and UEA, or doing nothing. How would you rate my chances for Warwick/Durham, and what has a better reputation for economics between Leeds and Manchester and York and UEA? and what would you advise me to do? I loved the UEA open day but it's close to where I live and I'm a bit put off by that, between Leeds and Manchester I have no idea what to think really, Manchester would be cool as my girlfriend is going to liverpool which is close but so is leeds.

Hi there,

You’ve got strong predicted grades and decent TMUA scores, so you’re already in a solid position for competitive unis.

If UEA left a strong impression during the open day, that’s a great sign! Sometimes being close to home can offer advantages like reducing the stress of relocation while still experiencing independence. UEA’s economics program is well-regarded (Top 20 In the UK for Economics), with a focus on real-world applications and supportive faculty. If you’re concerned about proximity, consider what you loved about the environment—it’s likely the academic and social experience you’re seeking. Trusting your gut and how comfortable you felt on the campus might outweigh the proximity issue.

Let me know if you've got any questions about UEA, happy to help!

you will be able to access your tmua score around late november, so you could always leave the slot blank and pick between manchester and warwick after finding out your score

With your grades why not shoot for LSE?

the lack of further maths would make LSE very unlikely, and they also require the TMUA admission test

My gcses alone would make an LSE offer nearly impossible unfortunately
