Will Student finance fund me as an external applicant

I am a final yr law student who due to my long term disability was unable to complete some of my final year modules .
I was approved to resit my modules uncapped as an external candidate with my uni. I’m resitting 50% of my uni course/modules .
Am I able to apply for a Maintenance loan under compelling personal reasons (CPR) due to my disability to help me alongside studies . E.g food, bills , travel

Any advice appreciated

Hi there. Can you please confirm if this is a Full Time or Part Time course? Also, is this your first repeat year? Do you have any other previous study? Thanks, David

Hi
Thank you for replying
It is a full time course , I have not had to repeat a year before. I did do a foundation year in law which I passed before transferring to another university to do my LLB . It is only in final year where the symptoms of my disability (recognised by sfe and the uni ) were significantly impeding my life.
Would it be possible for me to claim maintenance loan to help manage my studies and life.

Hi there. Thanks for confirming. Student are only eligible to receive funding if you are classed as in attendance. Typically external students cannot apply for funding since they aren't classed as being in attendance. Thanks, Leah.

Hi
Thanks for your reply , my apologies for not getting back sooner .
The decision to make me an external candidate was made as a reasonable adjustment due to my disability impeding / impacting my ability to physically attend lectures and considered best course of action .

I can provide written confirmation from my university and healthcare provider confirming this .
Is there any other evidence to fulfill the criteria to claim maintenance? What else may be required to help fulfil the Criteria?

.I come from a low income household , I am managing at least 50% of the course and getting a job is affected by my disability therefore, this maintenance loan would make a difference in helping me manage my disability and basic needs.

Any advice appreciated

Hi Amber,

We can't award finance if the university are classing you as external. You would be best speaking to them to query alternative funding options.

Thanks,
Claire
