in the night i was starting to fall asleep and i suddenly had this shock i got scared as to why it happened

Don't worry, it's totally normal. I had the same last night. Sometimes it can accompany a dream - the classic example is where you're falling and you jerk awake just before you hit the ground. Last night for me I dreamed I was walking along and someone accidentally kicked the back of my foot and that made me jerk awake. Go figure.
