Dentistry UCAS 2025 - Scottish student

I've sent in my UCAS application yesterday for dentistry as a Scottish student and only applied to 2 dental schools - Dundee and Glasgow. I applied for extenuating circumstances for glasgow bc i was worried about my low ucat score (2400 Band 2) however I didn't get it and im trying to appeal it bc english isn't my first language and some of my other circumstances. I'm so so stressed about the ucat cut off and the fact i won't even be looked at bc of my ucat, I've gotten 8 As at Nat 5, 7As at Higher and currently doing 3 AHs and 1 Higher in S6, its only my ucat thats bringing me down😭. Also I'm not sure if i count as a young carer so woukd anyone be able to help? I care for my young sister and act basically as a parent role in her life, my parents work all the tine and isnt at home so i take care of cooking, cleaning etc around the house, however, most websites ive looked at online says a young carer cares for someone who has a disability/mental illness but mu sister doesnt have any so im rlly not sure. can smo pls help carify and any suggestions or ideas? or even if anyone got into glasgow uni for dentistry with a low ucat?

Hi, your low UCAT is a bit of an issue, especially looking back on Glasgow’s cutoff scores for home students - they haven’t gone below 2470 in recent years. Your grades are brilliant, though, and you might as well try to apply. Dundee is quite UCAT heavy (40% accounted for) which is also unfortunate for you. And most unis don’t consider N5 ;( What are your preds for AH?
In regards to being a young career, your sister has no mental illness or disability, and you do still live in your parents’ home and financial support, so in that circumstance they are both of your legal guardians and so you likely won’t qualify for young carers, even though you do so much for her (eldest sibling struggle)
I hope this helps, good luck with your application!

Oh no 😭 My 3 AHs (bio, chem and mandarin) are all predicted As and same with higher physics which I took this year is predicted an A as well. I'm pretty confident in my grades it's just the UCAT that didn't go well at all.
Also thanks so much for the young carer clarification! Older sibling struggle is real and unfortunately doesn't qualify tho😭 anyways thank you so much! Really hoping I could still get into dental school this year tho

Hi! I probably sounded a little harsh im so sorry for that.. i won't lie you may struggle bc of ur UCAT but ur AH grades are even better... maybe try contact the unis you applied to and see how much your UCAT affects your application? Also I know this is a bit late but why didn't you apply to Aberdeen dentistry?

Ahh of course. Remember it’s not all over, you can take a gap year if you don’t manage to get in and retake the UCAT, the reapply
