naa, you are good. a little shaky with Oxford tho since they tend to focus heavily on GCSEs and the UCAT/BMAT, get a really high UCAT score and leave the rest to Luck, you will get offers... trust !!!

This isn't the end of the world. If you want any more hope, programs like the Lucy Cavendish Academic Attainment programme, and CHAS (Cambridge Higher Aspirations Scheme) are offered to sixth-formers. They focus on "Widening Participation", which depending on your circumstances, may allow lower grade requirements when you apply to Universities in the future. If you are an under-represented group, a person of an ethnic/minority background, come from a low attainment area, try apply for these schemes.

Furthermore, it's also all about participation in your school life, extracurriculars, etc.
For me, I contributed in the promotion of a Basketball team to Premier League, I compete in Judo at a high level, and used to swim at a county level. I now help Lower School classes specialising in pupils with learning differences, and help my schools basketball club/teams.

Lastly, If you think you are one of those students that just appear at school, do what their told, get home, do homework, and repeat, never going beyond what is expected of you, never raising your hand in class, then top universities wont view you as a candidate (of course, unless you get triple/quadruple A*).
Top universities love people that do extra, not a robot. Hopefully any of this rant helps.

Imperial college don't use your gcses for medicine admission process that's what they said when I went to the open day they only need a B in English language gcse. They would use the ucat to determine who they interview .

lol, if that was the case then all the top universities don't use your GCSES, all you need is B in maths and english. You should realise that it is very competitive, they just tell you that to encourage you to apply because you have got the grade already an nothing can be done about it. Last year, I got rejected from Oxford and in the email, it said they want only 150 people from the 1500 application. Think of it like you in other 9 persons competing for the place. Anyone applying to medicine at Imperial /Oxford are predicted As and A*s so you have all passed first phase. UCAT? (5 eliminated), What else GCSEs, the only thing that can tell them whether you can get your predicteds or not because I don't know what else can forecast that (2 eliminated because remaining 3 students have (9-11)A*s). Now, Remaining 3 students what have you done towards this course, motivation? Then personal statement.

Not in any order and This is not what the selection process looks like I am just getting you to think like you being part of the 10 people competing for the place. In reality, they will take into account any extenuating circumstance, Diversity, equity and inclusion taken into consideration, location, school and everything will be taken into consideration. But I just wanted you to think like why should they choose you over the 9. Even if you got didn't get 8s and 9s in GCSEs, what else have you get to impress them....bang out the UCAT, go do some heart surgery too lol. Personal statement and A levels won't do much even though you need it for head to head

Imperial literally doesn't use GCSEs for shortlisting; It is 100% on your ucat. This just means you need probably around a 2950+ to get an interview. You can easily use the ucat to get rid of 60-70% of your applicants and then use the interview to whittle it down even more; just come up with a threshold based on how good your applicants are and how many you want to interview.

I don't know but there is only one way to find out. Applying! I think the grades are great if you have a strong ucat score and like good predicteds, then APPLY

I’ve spoken to the admission tutor at Oxford they consider 9’s and 8’s the same in the system they use to select for interview so it’s as good as you getting all 9’s to them. If you want to apply to Oxford med even beautiful grades.

Hi everyone ☺️

I’m a medical student at Imperial College London and part of the team assessing medicine interviews this year. Additionally, I’ve been an interviewer for engineering applicants over the past three years during my PhD.
This December, my colleague—a doctor who graduated from both Oxford and Imperial—and I will be offering tailored mock interviews for medicine and engineering applicants.

Here’s what you can expect:

Realistic panel mock interviews: Each session will include two doctors, mirroring the actual interview process.

Authentic interview questions: Designed to closely replicate the format and content of the real thing.

Detailed feedback: Written feedback provided, plus the opportunity to ask follow-up questions for further clarity.

If you’re interested in booking a session, please visit this link: https://smartleinterviews.setmore.com/myshkin

Feel free to message me or reply to this message with any questions, and I’ll do my best to help. Good luck with your application!
