Maths at Bath or Duhram

Anyone know which one i should pick?
Got the grades for both (A*A*A in maths fm and physics) + im a contextual student.
I picked bath because it seems to be progressing in the rankings and taking itself more seriously, whereas i feel like durham are comfortable where they are and not catching up. I could be wrong but bath seemed better for me (in the same situation just not contextual)

Had the same situation last year - offers from both and chose Bath and am there now, really liking it. Great post degree prospects, year in industry options and well regarded degree. Both Unis have some accommodation issues, I would say Bath is better though. Good luck!

Apply to both then make a decision. If you have the offers, i would suggest Durham.

Hi there!

Its great to hear that you're considering Bath as one of your choices and thanks so much for the great positive comments on this thread. At the end of the day you are the best judge of what's right for you. I would advise you look closely at the course content/modules and see which capture your interest and inspiration more, visit both unis (e.g. open days, offer holder days) and their cities if you can (I know Durham is a long way from us at Bath!) to get a feel for the culture and the atmosphere, and also whenever you can try to chat to current students, whether it be at open events or online on Unibuddy - they're possibly one of the best sources of info on what its like to be at each uni. As has been said however, you have plenty of time to think about which would suit you and your needs best. I cannot speak for Durham, but with a cosy campus, a small, safe and gorgeous Georgian city and a brilliant placement scheme I had a lovely time at Bath when I was a student here 🙂

I hope this helps and best of luck with your choices!

hi! im thinking about applying for maths at bath- would you be able to tell me about the modules in year 1? when i was looking at other unis (imperial, birmingham etc) they have a list of modules eg algebra 1 analysis 1.... but for bath i can only see it grouped as pure and applied....

The contextual maths offer for Durham is A*AB so you should definitely consider that as at least your insurance choice. As to your top pick this is a highly personal decision. The best advice I could give is to go to Open Days at both, consider a wide variety of factors, and then take it from there. Good luck.

Thanks - I ended up choosing bath as I didnt want all 5 of my unis to depend on an admissions test. It’s also a bit late for open days as I was an early applicant 😅

I know it isn't the same, but if you haven't had the chance to come to Bath's main open days, perhaps consider coming to our virtual open day on 31st October? Its a good way to take a look at the campus, the facilities and hear from some of our academics and current students. There are also some Q and A sessions happening which I personally found really helpful when deciding between unis.

See what you think 🙂 and best of luck this year!
