MMU SaLT entry requirements

Interested in applying for Speech Therapy at Manchester Met. I already have my A Level Results:
English Language A
Psychology B
English Literature C (one mark off a B!)
Does anyone know if I would have a chance of being accepted?

Yes, it's possible as you're only one grade below the required ABB. Was the course in clearing this year?

You could contact MMU and ask whether it's an automatic rejection or not, though I suspect they will be quite vague.

At the end of the day it's only one choice out of five, so if there's a chance go for it.

For healthcare courses your grades are only part of the requirements. Have you been able to shadow an SLT and do you have public-facing work/volunteering experience? If these are strong, it might help with the missed grade.

Hi there,
The requirement is ABB currently for the course and I am afraid they are very strict on the requirements. You can access SLT through a different way by doing a masters in psychology, occupational therapy ect. Maybe check some of these out instead on the Manchester metropolitan website.
Best wishes,
Emily

Can you clarify - do you mean do an undergrad in a life science and then apply for a pre-reg masters in SLT?
@yorkshire1966 If MMU is very strict on grades requirements, if might be better for you to retake the one A level. Did you take your A levels within the last five years?

Hi there,
Fab question! You could do any undergraduate degree really, and then apply for the SLT Masters as long as you get a 2:1 (entry requirements are here: MSc Speech and Language Therapy (Pre-registration) · Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk))
Any more questions I’m here to help 🙂

Hi @yorkshire1966!

I would definitely recommend applying if you're a grade below the entry requirements. I can't promise that you'll receive an offer to study with us but your application will still be considered.

If your application was unsuccessful then there are other routes to become an SLT. For example, we offer a pre-registration MSc SLT course for applicants with degrees in other areas like English, Linguistics and Health Sciences.

Hope this helps!
Chloe 🙂
