Hospital work experience

Hi I'm in year 12 and would like to apply to medicine. For now, I'm volunteering at a nursing home and I've done work experience at a medical/immunology lab, and I've secured a 1 day placement at a GP for November, but I'm currently really struggling to get work experience at a hospital. If anyone has any tips for getting a placement or has any contacts they could give me around the West Midlands/ Warwickshire area then that would be super helpful.

Hi , I am currently in year 11 and managed to secure work experience in a hospital for 1 week shadowing a doctor. It was hard it took me ages of scrolling but if you look at your local bigger hospital and research work experience schemes and put together a small cv and email and fill out there forms you should be in with a shot. Note most places will now be taken for this year but its worth a try. Email around ask friends or family for favours!! If you want help dm
You categorically do not need work experience in a hospital. If you've been in a care home you have already done enough. Don't stress about it. That being said, you may find it significantly easier to ask for work experience in your nearest community hospital.

Hey!

I would try not to get too hung up on getting work experience within a hospital as this isn't always necessary! I would try reflecting on what you have learnt so far from your current experience as this would be really helpful at interview!

If you do want to try getting into a hospital, I would try emailing / ringing their education departments (their info is normally online) and they can point you in the right direction!

I hope this helps,
Rebecca, UCLan
