Do I have a chance at LSE?

I am in yr 13, doing Further Maths, maths, economics and chemistry. My official predicted grades aren't out yet but it's most likely A*AAB (B in chem and a* in maths). I am also sitting the TMUA in a few days (but I don't think I am gonna do too well). Do I have a chance at LSE or is it looking bad ..? I am hoping to apply for econometrics and mathematical economics.

You definitely have a chance. You're taking Further Maths which is generally needed for LSE, especially if you're applying for a mathmatical degree.

Depending on your TMUA score, you can still definitely get an offer. I'd recommend trying to talk to your teacher and getting that B moved to an A as that will give you the best chance to have a strong application.

Would they really care about B in chemistry coz it's not related with economics?

I think it’s more to do with the fact chem is quite quantitative so even if not related to econ, the math skills they may care about not too sure tho. Also maybe back in the day FM was a major advantage but I think now most people apply with fm . I’m also trying to apply LSE but for financial math and stats

I have mine aswell on Thursday please tell me how it goes. I’ll be fully honest with you I’ve spent days trying to research this topic you are asking and have come very short handed. Everywhere I see, it’s conflicting opinions like some people argue saying people with 9s got rejected and people with like 4.8 have been accepted. Others say they had perfect grades but low TMUA and rejects and some got offers so in all honesty bro idk I’m very stressed and lost too. I think it’s just best to try not to overthink and try your best. I don’t think I’m getting good either on past papers I get like best 6 which is barely over average (arguably just average) . From what I gathered this may not be reassuring but it feels like getting into a good uni is nothing short of gambling, to see many with better grades or scores get rejected we can only hope.

Dw bro I’m also cooked if that helps and many other are too.
In my opinion I think as long as you get an average 5-6 it shouldn’t be too important I think it’s mainly if u get high 6-7 u get an advantage ig.

My test went awful bruh I ran out of time, so I don't think I am gonna do good in the test.. I'll be surprised if I even get a 4. My chances at uni are looking very slim😭.

Bro don’t stress it so did I. I guessed almost half the test in like 1 min left for paper 1. Tons of people flopped let us just pray the grade boundaries are low .

I think they come out around 6 weeks after it's been sat so towards the end of November for the October sitting and maybe like mid February for the January sitting.

Update: my actuall predicted results are A*A*AA in maths, econ, Further maths and chem (respectively) , I got my TMUA result today and it was bad , 3.9. how much does lse care about the tmua..?

Hey @Mehar03,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

Firstl, huge congrats on securing such strong predicted grades—AAAA is an incredibly excellent achievement, especially for such challenging subjects. I think this is pretty obvious, but those grades already put you in a great position regarding your application.

Regarding TMUA, I honestly don't think LSE uses it as a strict requirement for admission to this course. Unlike other unis like Cambridge, a more general admission process (like that of LSE) focuses more on your academic profile (grades and subjects), your personal statement, and your teacher reference. Now, whilst a 3.9 on the TMUA might not add much weight to your application, I highly doubt it's giong to disqualify you. LSE is clear that strong predicted grades, especially in Maths and Further Maths, are essential, and you've already demonstrated your strength in those areas.
Honestly, I would now focus on working on your personal statement, asking your form tutor to reference your strong academic potential and commitment to studies, and then just focus on those core subjects and revision.

Thankfully, those unis that take a more holistic viewpoint for applications (like LSE and Kent [shameless I know 😜 ]) allow for you to stay in the running despite some setbacks now and then.

Anyways, I'll be wishing the best for you during this process.
Do make sure to check us out though as we'd also love to have you studying here! 😀

Warm regards,

David 🙂

Icl idk and I pray to god they don’t care a lot. Some people say they may care more as for some courses it’s now mandatory but for mine it still only recommended. Sent my application for Oxbridge cycle with 3 A* prediction in math fm and econ and I got a bit lower than u in TMUA. I had a bit of an extenuating circumstance but icl I don’t think it’s enough I’m defo cooked. Goodluck bro wish u the best it’s over for me 💀

The OP"s course is one of only two at LSE for which the TMUA is an absolute requirement, so I think we can assume that it's fairly important part of the selection process.

Does this mean it puts me at a disadvantage? Or does it just leave me at a normal position, just not an advantage (idk if I make much sense 💀💀)

Being honest, I'd assess it as a disadvantage, though you can't do anything about it now.
