How to register with a local GP / Fairhill Medical Practice

Whether you’re new to the UK or just new to Kingston, one of the first things you’ll want to do is register with a local GP (General Practitioner) to make sure you’re all set for any health needs. Trust me, it’s easier than it sounds, and I’m here to guide you through it step by step!

1.

Step 1: Check if Fairhill Medical Practice is your GP

Fairhill is super convenient for Kingston students! Head to their website and use the postcode checker to ensure you’re in their area. If you’re not, no stress—search for other local GPs on the NHS website.

Step 2: Fill out the Registration Form

You can do this entirely online through the Fairhill Medical Practice website. It’s quick, and you’ll just need to enter some basic info. If you’re more of an “in-person” person, you can also drop by the practice to register. Easy!

Pro tip: Have your student ID ready and any important health info (especially if you take regular meds or have a medical condition). It makes things smoother.

Step 3: Proof of Address

You’ll likely need to show proof of your Kingston address—something like a tenancy agreement, a utility bill, or a letter from the Uni will work. If you're in the student halls, this should be easy to grab.

Step 4: Optional but Useful—Intro Appointment

Some GPs like to offer a “get to know you” appointment, especially if you’re new to the UK. It’s a great chance to ask questions about the healthcare system here and make sure you’re set for any future needs.

Step 5: Access NHS Services on the Go

Once you’re registered, you’ll get your NHS number, which you can use to book appointments and order prescriptions through the NHS App. Super convenient when you’re busy with lectures or hanging out in Kingston!

I know moving to a new city (or country!) can feel a bit overwhelming at times, but registering with a GP is one of those things that’ll give you peace of mind. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about when you’re busy getting into uni life. And remember, Kingston Uni’s Student Services team is always here to support you through anything—big or small!

If you have any other questions or just need some tips on settling in, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Welcome to Kingston—you’re going to love it here!
