If I'm thinking of the question I think you're referring to, you don't need to use the product/quotient rule. You just divide through by the x^1/3, or whatever it was on the bottom of the fraction, and then integrate the resulting expression normally. ESAT (and engaa before it) have never required the product/quotient rule so you're safe.

there was 2 one was w tan the other was a reciprocal of a quadratic but they used partial fractions and ln.

Okay don't remember that. Was this the ESAT mock that is on the Pearson ESAT website? If you could send a screenshot of the question then I could help. But I'm still sure that you're not supposed to use the product/quotient rule, because, as you say, it's not on the spec.

Ah I see, well yes you're right you would need to use product rule, but these questions are not also found on the ESAT official mock tests, and they would not be put on the exam. Slightly disappointing that esat ninja put those questions on their test, but I double checked the spec just now and it's definitely not on there.
The answers are A and B respectively, if you hadn't already checked, but I would just move on from them because you really don't need to worry about that now.
Good luck for tomorrow!
