How realistic are my choices for law at university?

I’m currently on a BBB but I might be able to push it up for ABB, I’ve got down Exeter university, Sheffield, Lancaster, Swansea and UEA?

I know that Sheffield and Exeter expect AAA but I don’t think I’m eligible for contextual offers as my home postcode fails but my school one passes the IMD Q 1 or Q2 but doesn’t pass the POLAR4, so I’m assuming it doesn’t.

If anybody could be any help that would be great!! 🙏🙏

If you are not eligible for Contextual offers from these two, they are not realistic choices for anyone only expecting BBB grades - that 3 grades adrift. You need to contact both of these Unis to check your eligibility for a lower grade offer, or not, before you apply and if necessary, to adjust your choices accordingly.
Hello @Richi2007

Thank you for your question regarding entry requirements at Lancaster. Our grade requirements for LLB Law are AAB, as you have described you are currently on BBB which does suggest that they are slightly lower than the guidance for A-level grades. I would encourage you to email our admissions team surrounding your question as they will likely be able to give you a better insight into what grades are more likely to be accepted. They are contactable at [email protected].

When I was applying for universities I made the university with the highest grades my firm choice, so that if I did achieve the grades needed and I had received a conditional offer, that would be the university I attended, and then I placed another university with lower grades needed as my insurance should I have done not as well as I anticipated.

Please feel free to ask any further questions!

Swansea seems potentially realistic as your grades are within their accepted range, albeit at the bottom end. The other four however exceed your predicted grades. While applying to one or two which are just above your predicted is sometimes okay as aspirational choices, four is rather risky, as you could end up rejected from all four or perhaps even five if Swansea doesn't accept you. Unless you are open to taking a gap year, I would suggest including a few unis with lower grades. Clearing could also be something to consider. However, it is ultimately up to you (and please take my guidance with a pinch of salt as I am only going based off what I could tell from uni websites and here).

Hi @Richi2007, I hope all is well. Great to hear you're considering Law at Swansea University!

Check out these webpages for insights into studying Law at Swansea Uni https://www.swansea.ac.uk/law/. There are numerous courses and combinations, including the option to undertake a Year in Practice as part of your degree.

You will definitely get a Conditional Offer for Law at Swansea University with BBB or equivalent. We will also consider flexibility around Results Day, if you don't quite achieve the terms of your offer. https://www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/how-to-apply/guaranteed-offers/

You can always chat to us on the finer detail of our approach grades and places etc, we're a friendly bunch and want you to make the right choice for you. I would highly recommend attending an Open Day if you can - the next one is coming up soon in just a couple of weeks https://www.swansea.ac.uk/our-open-days/.

If you need help with anything else, get in touch at any time. Many thanks, Gethin (Future Students Team).

Hi Richi,

I think it's really good that you've got a wide variety of really excellent universities on your list! UEA is ranked in the top 20 for law in the UK and having just finished a four-year psychology course there I can say it's a really lovely place to live and study. If you have any questions about what UEA is like or about Norwich in general, just let me know.

Apologies but I don't know what course exactly you're looking at, however UEA's Law undergrad typically gives out offers to AAB predictions, and contextual offers to BBB predictions. I sort of went through the same thing during my undergrad- I didn't know whether to put UEA or Southampton as my first because I knew if I didn't get the grades for Southampton I'd immediately be rejected. But I will say going to an open day helped massively as I got to talk to current students and the admissions team which really put me at ease, so I highly recommend this. UEA's next open day is Saturday the 23rd of November.

You mentioned contextual offers and how you're not sure if you're eligible- you can have a check here or if you'd like to get in touch and speak to someone, just let me know.

I know this helps a bit!

Good luck,
UEA Rep Grace
