Studying Chemistry A Level at 21 for Veterinary

Hi everyone, I have decided to take an interruption of study from my current degree (English Literature and Russian Studies) from the University of Edinburgh, where I have studied one year, because I have decided I want to study veterinary. I am using my year out to study another A-Level (Chemistry), which I can hopefully use to get into a veterinary course somewhere else. Basically I’m terrified that I’ll be too old to get in to another university course. I completed my first three a levels in 2022 and I am worried that universities will feel that too much time has passed and I should have a degree by now. What do you think?
I’m 28 and I’m a first-year student at HKVS. There are multiple people my age and older. Very often in vet med and medicine there are many mature students. There are many people your age and you would still be considered young - although this plays no judgement in the universities applicant selection. They’re more interested in your application and qualities, not age

Thanks for replying - I know I’m still technically young, but I’m now classified as a mature student which freaks me out, and when I eventually end up going to vet school I will most likely be 22/23, with no prior undergraduate degree. I feel like it’s such a huge gamble to drop out of a good university where I will end up with a degree, and apply for veterinary where they may not even accept me because I’ve been out of school for too long. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

You won't be rejected for your age. There are people starting veterinary in their 30s, 40s, and 50s (some on this forum), so put that worry out of your mind. I don't know how strict universities are about taking A-levels all in one go, but it should say on their websites. Some may state that your level 3 studies should have been done within a certain number of years before application, but I haven't come across any that state less than three years.
