i kinda wish i took music...

So, I'm 14, currently in yr 10, and I'm working towards my gcses, but I'm starting to wish I took music.

When I made my choices, music was never really on the table, but I've been doing more singing, and am applying for the junior academy course at the royal academy of music, I'm abrsm grade 7 singing (but my choirmaster thinks I should start my diploma), I have a distinction in grade 5 theory, and have recently been performing in more concerts. All this to say, my singing teacher was (and still is, to a lesser extent) an opera singer, and she and my choirmaster have recently been saying I'm 'good enough to make a career out of it'. Singing really is my biggest passion, and my dream job is an opera singer, even in a chorus. I know if I don't do singing professionaly, I'll do med school or biochem, and I'll probably enjoy it, but I'll always feel like I missed out on an opourtunity to do my passion professionaly.

The problem is, I didn't have this insight a year ago when I chose my gcses, and I didn't choose music. I also didn't do music in yr 9 either. But, I did my grade 5 theory, and i almost got a perfect score (2 marks off 100%). I really enjoyed my theory course, I love singing, but I feel like I'll never be able to do it because I didn't choose music. Any insight into what I should do?
Are you able to switch courses? Some schools will allow you to change one of your options a little into the start of term providing that you catch up on what you’ve missed. You should really passionate and talented at music so they should be able to see that you’re motivated to take that course. Maybe ask your head of year/house/form teacher is this is an option? Lots of people in my history class joined after the first half term from what i can remember (most switched from geography or photography after changing their minds) and history is very content heavy but they all caught up and were given help with this 🙂

Ask if you can change options.
