Gonville and Caius accomodation

I’m applying to Gonville and Caius for law as an undergraduate. I probably won’t get in but I was wondering as to how the accommodation is? I’ve heard that the kitchens were quite “spartan” and I’m sort of worried because I do plan on cooking myself and not eating much there.

I can only answer from my experience of the 1st year accoms.
There’s two options - Harvey Court or Stephen Hawking.
HC is more communal - many rooms have shared balconies and most of the rear windows tend to face other rooms.
SH is more hotel-like. Rear windows face outside the building, to the gardens.
Both are just really nice - much better than lots of other uni accoms I’ve been to. Large desks, lots of space, decent sized beds. Convenient storage and a good amount of it. Toilets are comparatively very nice. Soundproofing is also good (especially at SH), which can’t be underestimated.
As for cooking - there’s no ovens. There are hobs and I believe microwaves if I remember correctly. You may have to get a bit creative. The college obviously prefers you to eat with others in the dining hall, hence the MDR. It isn’t too expensive.
Hope that helps a little.
