Biology important for psychology degree?

I am applying to UCL and Manchester university in bachelor of psychology. I am doing 4 Alevel. Psychology, math, further math, biology. They are only looking at 3 a level. My predicted grade are A*A*AC. I got C prediction in biology will that affect my possibility of being accepted? As some teacher mentioning biology is important for psychology degree. However I have it as forth subject.

I'd suggest contacting the university admissions departments to get a straight answer. Manchester's website mentions 'Subjects with overlapping content are not normally considered as separate A-levels; Further Mathematics is not considered alongside Mathematics' which may be an issue but email and check. I couldn't find anything about that on the UCL website. You can email admissions at Manchester on [email protected] and at UCL on [email protected]

Biology is pretty useful for some aspects of Psychology degrees but you don't need to have studied it to understand Psychology from a course content perspective in most cases. That being said, getting an A/A* in Biology given your A-level choices may nevertheless be necessary in terms of meeting essential entrance requirements, so you should email the universities you have applied to to check if they would accept this.
Hi there,

Amy here, a current MSc Children's Psychological Disorders student at Cardiff University!

Having just graduated from my Psychology undergraduate, I think having an A-Level in Biology was relatively useful in understanding some of the neuropsychological topics, such as brain structures and the nervous system. However, lecturers are aware that not everyone has a biological background, therefore they usually tend to re-explain these concepts just to make sure everyone is on an even playing field (in my personal experience at Cardiff anyway)!

However, if you have concerns regarding admissions, I would definitely recommend contacting the admissions team at any universities you're thinking of applying to 🥰
