Useful Mooc (free short online course)
Empire - Online Course (futurelearn.com)

And a relevant BBC podcast
BBC Radio 4 - In Our Time, The British Empire

Also, get hold of a copy of The Oxford History Of The British Empire, and check out the source references in the final volume. Your school library might have a copy, or a large municipal library might have a copy.

On the Public Records Office site, you can hunt for Parliamentary reports and papers from the period 1945 to 1970, and earlier. Period newspaper reports of events such as the Irish War of Independence, the partition of India, Suez, the Malay Emergency, the Mau Mau uprising, the conflicts in Cyprus and Aden, UDI in Rhodesia, and so on, can be found online. Likewise reports of those transitions from Empire to Commonwealth which happened without bloodshed.

PS: primary source materials about the Falklands War (the Empire strikes back) are very easy to find online, with lots of videos on youtube.

PPS: Read Empireland. It should be compulsory reading for every politician and journalist in the UK.

And, if you have not already got this - The British Empire: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) : Jackson, Ashley: Amazon.co.uk: Books - good summary stuff and has good 'follow up reading' ideas.
