Hi @bare-mouth

I am a third year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student at the University of Southampton so I study some of my lectures within the Politics and International Relations department. From my experience, I have found the teaching very engaging. Many modules tend to be interactive so you get the chance to discuss with fellow coursemates and develop your opinions. There's a variety of modules to choose from - ranging from the more theoretical ones like ones on democracy to ones that are more practical like the Middle East module. In second and third year, the majority of the modules are optional so you get the opportunity to tailor the degree to your interests. You can browse the variety of different modules here.

This degree is highly employable. Within 6 months of graduation, 96% of graduates are in employment or in further study. They go into a variety of roles such as into social research, journalism or in NGOs to name a few. The Careers department at the University of Southampton is very strong and good at helping people getting into jobs. Throughout the year, they run numerous different events such as careers fairs, talks where alumni discuss the jobs they now in as well as a variety of workshops such as how to write a CV, a cover letter, or LinkedIn workshops. They also invite employers to come on campus so students can meet them. For example, in the past couple of weeks, there has been on campus, Pwc, Deloitte and EY. Moreover, the Careers department also offer individual appointments where you can discuss anything related to career searching whether that be where to find jobs or you want them to check your application. They are also able to support you with applying to placements and internships.

With regards to study abroad, you will apply by January of your second year for what universities you want to apply to. They give the talks giving information on this during the early part of second year. You can find out more information here.

I would highly recommend you attend the university as this is the best way to ascertain whether this is the best place for you. We have one more open day on Wednesday 27 November. There are also offer holder days during the early part of 2025.

Hope this helps,
Gulcin
