(Advice pls) Hate my student accommodation

Hi guys. As the title says I hate my student accommodation and at this point it just keeps getting worse. The main problem I have is the lack of privacy and the rules they have - I came home in a rush (over 100 miles away) because of a family emergency and today I’ve got an email saying during “work” carried out in my flat they’ve identified my space was cluttered with personal items and “rubbish” which I know damn well isn’t true I just haven’t even had proper time to unpack.
Is there any rules about how much notice they have to give before they enter your flat?? I’ve got no idea but they didn’t even tell me that any work needed to take place.
My other problem is it’s so expensive and I have to find a new tenant before I cancel my booking.
Please help guys lol

Hi @vsepr902,
There should definately be something somewhere stating how much notice must be given before they can enter your place. This is likely in your contract (you will have one even for halls). You should be able to get support from the university or students' union to address the issues you are having with your accommodation as the situation you are in is not ideal to say the least. I would advise speaking to them as they may have specialist knowladge on unfair conditions.

I hope you can find a way forward

Hi @vsepr902 ,

I would recommend talking to the accommodation team at your university about this as they should be able to help you out with this. If they can, they might be able to help you and if they could they might be able to help you out with moving. However, it depends on your university and also if you have booked through your uni or privately. It's worth asking anyway.

I would also say it might be worth just advertising your accommodation now as someone might want to move into it and you might be able to change where you are living this way. Again, it is worth trying as you might be able to do this and not have to sort it out with the building.

I also agree that usually you are given notice before you have an inspection, so if you feel you were not given this, you might be able to talk to uni about this. You might also be able to talk to your student union as they can sometimes help you in situations like this.

I hope this gets resolved for you,

I have lived in three different places and the first sounded like this- no notice, no privacy, treated like a child. My current place is amazing and give at least one week’s notice.

Hi

Usually, all information on time periods before entering a property can be found in the resident's handbook which your accommodation provider will be able to give to you.

If you were looking for someone to take over your accommodation, usually you can post the room vacancy in your Facebook group and generally it can be filled fairly quickly.

I hope this helps,
