Hi!

I've applied for HSPS at Newnham, and sociology and politics at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and Sheffield. I take english lit, politics and maths.

What's everyone's areas of interest/ what did you write about in your personal statement? I focused on gender, the welfare state, and the climate crisis.

Yours sounds really interesting! I talked about voting behaviour/participation, fascism, and colonialism 😊 But in my extra one for MyCambridge I included a bit about gender and caste systems, trying to link it a bit more to sociology and anthropology as my main one was politics-focused

that sounds super cool! I focused on democratic backsliding, rhetoric, some political theory and the conception of inequality... one thing i love about hsps is how diverse other people's interests are! gl <3

It’s hard to say for sure whether you’ll get into cambridge or not since they do view applications holistically. So even if you have good predicteds, gcse and a solid personal statement, your teachers reference and how well ur school does in general still counts

Hiii!!
I've also applied to Newnham as well for HSPS!!!

My PS was a bit more Politics/IR (I've applied to Poli/IR everywhere else haha) and I talked about the the rise of the far right in global politics/populism/polarisation/the role of social media in politics today

In the MyCamb application I focused more on anthropology/sociology and talked about my interest in post colonial studies/anthropological studies on the Middle East

Good luck applying!!!!

should be fine tbh! some people say you shouldn't be too opinionated in your ps but... it's hard not to be... and i guess it won't affect the unis' decisions bc they can't reject you based on political views

Yeah. Adding on to this, as long as your opinion is academically informed and backed up with evidence, it should be fine to mention your political views. Just make sure if you do get an interview, to be open minded because your interviewee might have a different stance to your opinion.
Has anyone gotten an interview yet?
