Commute from home to uni

Hello,

I know this might sound like a stupid question but if I choose to remain in London and I go to a university outside of London is that allowed. Or do I HAVE to rent an accommodation? I’m year 13 btw.

It's not a stupid question. There is absolutely no requirement to apply for university accomodation. It's perfectly valid to commute to and from your university, although you will likely miss out on some of the social aspects of uni by doing so.

You can commute if you want to but there are quite a few things you need to consider.

First you must test the mode of transport to ensure it gets you from A to B on time. You may have lectures that start early and you need to get there on time. Cost it all. If you are thinking of driving there forget it as pretty much all unis don't have car parking for students. You may have a lot of free time between lectures. Work out what you would do with that time.

Also, if the journey is more than an hour forget it. That is too much of a commute and will be incredibly tiring.

Think about the social side of uni. If you make new friends who are going out after uni will you be able to go. Socialising is a big part of uni life that you don't want to miss out on.

Don't Cambridge and Oxford make it a requirement to live in college during term time?

I’m sure you can commute. But the problem is, is that i don’t know if they have a maximum distance

I believe that for Cambridge you have to live within 3 miles of the centre, or some landmark, so London would be out of the question. https://www.cambridgestudents.cam.ac.uk/new-students/manage-your-student-information/graduate-students/terms-study

For Oxford it's within 25 miles of Carfax Tower, ditto.

Both might have exemptions in exceptional circumstances.
