Once you have your results, you can contact unis and make enquiries with them in the hope of getting an informal non-binding offer. To receive a formal offer you'd then need to add that university / course as your Clearing choice in UCAS Hub. However, you can't do that unless you're actually in Clearing, which you won't be if you're holding an offer or a confirmed place elsewhere.

So to formally apply via Clearing, you'd have to decline any place you have elsewhere. So there is an element if risk involved. But you can call them up and have a conversation whilst still holding ba place elsewhere.

Hi there!

If you want to change courses then perhaps consider the option of, rather than going through clearing this year, taking a gap year to work/travel/volunteer and then reapply for a course you want for next year in the main cycle. It might give you more options to find something you would really like to do than if you went through clearing.

I hope this helps, best of luck!
