Finance Online MSc University of York VS University of Bath

I am in doubt between the two for these reasons:
The courses: York has Finance, Leadership and Management programme whereas Bath has Applied Economics. Both online but that's not really a factor here. My aim is to get into a career such as, investment banking, portfolio management, investment management, trading, financial advisor, analyst etc. Now considering this career path, Applied Economics make more sense, but at Bath I won't have the Russell Group backing it, but in York the curriculum is almost none related to a career above mentioned, and honestly nothing exciting, whereas Bath's curriculum is exactly what I seek to learn. Given these reasons, what employers will value most; Russell Group with a glorified project management course, or a lower class uni but with a much more finance and economics related curriculum?
Hiya there,

Thankyou for reaching out, this is a very valid question. I would encourage you to try to see past the Russell Group label as there are many really good universities who are not part of the group (St Andrews, Bath, Loughborough, Lancaster) but still deliver great courses and have excellent reputations. I would advise you to choose the course with the modules that suit you most, that you would like to learn and that you think will help you more towards your career aspirations, perhaps also considering assessment methods. You are likely to stay motivated and therefore have a better experience if you choose the course you feel you will enjoy more. I would say that if you do well then employers would value your degree whichever university you choose and are not likely to make a decision based on RG status.

I hope this helps, best of luck in your decision making 🙂

Thank you very much for your answer, I was already leaning towards Bath, but I think I just made my mind up 🙂

I'm glad we were able to help! We would always advise you to look into the course as one of the number one priorities for deciding on a uni - if there are modules you enjoy and are more motivated by then you'll have a much more fulfilling time at uni, and that's what its all about at the end of the day.

Huge best of luck for this year, and if you need any more info or have any more Qs then please reach out on here 🙂
