I’m currently retaking my A-levels so I do have some resources that I have found that have helped quite a lot. If you’re ever struggling, the politics shed is the best place to go it has all the information you need and it doesn’t just focus on one exam board, it has multiple.honestly I would highly recommend it. Politics explain tutoring on YouTube is also really good. I have started using this recently and I found a massive difference in my understanding of politics and my knowledge so I hope that helps

I am with Edexcel as my board
My favourite party of the subject right now is going through pressure parties
I struggle with the history and keeping up with general knowledge

It’s mostly just a lot of the background knowledge I feel like I don’t have enough political knowledge to actively get the grade I’m hoping for in this subject

I get what you mean. Honestly, it really varies per topic with regard to how much background you need for example when you’re doing political ideas if you have that then you need a lot of background knowledge but when you do Prime Minister and you go through what they’ve achieved you only really need to go back to Margaret Thatcher and then link in James Callaghan beforehand. I am happy to help with any background knowledge that you need. I found that the politics shed was quite good for knowledge because it comes up with everything you need for your exam board. Do you take edexcel?

I finished A-level politics this year and have just started my politics degree, here are my 2 cents ☺️:

table of examples for all topics

essay plans

timed past papers

blurting

get as much advice/feedback from teachers as possible!!

Thank you sm! Also when it comes to performing in class, in my class we have a lot of debates and I’m assuming every politics class has it, but I don’t think I’m that good at debating. How can I improve my debating skills if you have any suggestions?

I get what you mean with debates they are kind of annoying. Personally I found that we often did debates the linked to either questions from the exam or they linked to news. The way I got around there so that I would have information for a debate is I would either have a word document that I could access or I would have a notebook that had essay plans but I wouldn’t plan out my point. I would just write the for and against a list them from the strongest argument to the weakest argument and that way I found that when I was amazing, I was using points that I used in my essay plan. My recommendation is to think when you have a debate think what can this link to for example if you have a debate on whether the voting age should be lower to 16 then you can have reasons for reasons against. I often made points in my essay plans that I did on things like lowering the age to 16 or changing the voting system because when you find a controversial topic it’s often one that will be debated and when that’s the case I often found that if I wrote it in an essay plan I could understand it in more detail and then after you’ve done it and you’ve written it out you’ll then start to kind of remember it now and then and then when you’re in a debate and they ask you Whether you should have the alternative voting system or the single transferable way to system or our current voting system, you can already have the points from an essay plan that you made.

I would definitely say keep up with the news. I’m currently retaking my exams so I noticed the difference with the news this year than it was last year. For example this year you have a lot more news that is actually aimed at the government and when you write your exam, you often need up-to-date news. It is annoying but currently the benefit with the news at the moment is that you can have The elections just went on for the UK elections and what’s going on with Keir Starmer at the minute with his labour party and how they are quite weak because we’ve got party members leaving the party we’ve got a party members punching people. There’s a lot going on in that sense and then for example for US politics we’ve got the elections going on at the minute, which is quite useful Because for example you have how Joe Biden dropped out of the race and now it’s Kamal Harris Donald Trump and you’ve got how Donald Trump was shot and you have how he portrayed himself and I’ve also seen a lot on BBC News at the minute that they’ve got about the gender and what way gender is voting in race is voting.

For news are often found helpful to have BBC ne on the app because you can set topics that you want to pop up so I just had government and any politics that goes on and economics because sometimes economics is quite useful for the government as well because sometimes it’s kind of links between the two

Make essay plans. This is the best way to finalise your understanding. My favourite place to go to help me with this was the politic shed because it has all the information you need not only didn’t have all the information I needed but it’s broken down intersections I often found it when my teachers taught me they give you so much information that you can’t keep up with it. So if you’re ever struggling with the amount of information you’re given go on politic shed and it gives you all the information for your exam that you will need for your exam. They also have up-to-date information for example context that you will need in the exam which is also very useful because a lot of websites don’t do that

I think your trapped at 18 probably due to not much analysis
Hey all. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with this.
If I am to be asked a question on whether direct democracy is a better form of democracy, could I conclude by stating that a hybrid approach is a better approach to democracy rather than representative direct democracy, using direct and representative democracy together to create a more legitimate and accountable democracy that poses less of a risk of a tyranny of the majority, or do I have to pick one over the other? Would I be marked down if I said in my conclusion it should be a hybrid approach?
