A few icebreakers to kick things off:
What exam board are you with?
What do you enjoy most about this subject/ course?
What area do you struggle with in this subject/ course?

Good luck, together we can do this!

Hey My names Harry and I'm in Year 11 and currently doing GCSE AQA French!
I love this subject as I pursed to become a french teacher and I love the topics that we learn from it!
I dislike mocks/GCSE exams as they are hard, I excel in writing and reading but my weakness is speaking and listening!
I have done with my Speaking (HT) , it was hard and I had no idea what to do so it was stressful, thankfully my teacher and I will go through the paper ourselves soon and practise together. The reason the listening was hard is because I'm deaf!

Hi. My name is Lily and I am doing French AQA GCSE. I love the subject, and it comes to me so naturally! I have had extra lessons with my teacher and I did great on the speaking. I did my french writing mock today and it was good. I often go to Paris (about 3 times a year) and I love the atmosphere and the people. For listening, I have developed a good technique which may help other people: on quizlet create/find a set with necessary vocab. Then press the audio function (this will say the term out loud and when you flip the card, the definition out loud) while having your eyes closed. So hear the french said, say out loud what you think it is/in your head and then flip the card to see what the definition is in english. It really helped with the listening I had this week.

quizlet and memrise to help you really nail all the vocab / grammar. there's also lots of educational stuff on YouTube to help with grammar too. the more vocab/grammar you are confident with, the speaking will feel easier. id say look for some example GCSE speaking exams on YouTube and take notes

Definitely know your tenses and do past papers to get additional practice - ensure you mark the papers to see where you went wrong. Have a look at the video: gcse french | how to get grade 9 | 4,5,6,7&8! (tips from a teacher) on YouTube by The Ideal Teacher Language School to help further for a revision plan.

I take EDEXCEL GCSE french, and just got our mock back!! I got a grade 9 overall (full marks speaking, 58/60 writing, 48/50 reading, 46/50 listening)

If anyone from any exam board wants any help, or wants me to mark anything, I'm happy to help

yes , in the real thing you do the reading and listening back to back rather than separately

Yeah thats how we did it in our school for mocks😬it was pretty intense, but in some aspects I just preferred getting them out of the way.

Use the 5 minutes at the start really wisely.

- Don't just start translating the first question. Flick through until you see a question with a difficult topic, and start making vocab predictions.

- Highlight the key words, and the focus of the question.

During the actual listening part:

- For a 'tick the box' style question do not tick any boxes the first time you hear it. Instead put dots in any boxes you think it could be. Use the second time listening to confirm your answers, and put ticks in the boxes. Doing this really helps narrow down your answers and make it seem less overwhelming. It also avoids lots of messy work.

-Make sure you have ticked enough boxes.

- Make sure you are answering in the correct language.

- Don't focus on what you don't know, and instead focus on the bits you understand.

- Check your answer is reasonable. Did Bob really just but 10000 apples and 20 chairs from a market, or did you hear that wrong? If you are really unsure, make an educated guess.

Ngl if french was just speaking it'd acc be the best subject - my trick for speaking is just speaking out random reams of sentences sporadically, it winds up my sis and help me
