Will having achieved an A level early strengthen my application

I would like to study mech eng at Bristol with minimum entry requirements A*AA. But at the open day they said because the course is so competitive you realistically need A*A*A* predicted (or similar) to get a place. I have achieved an A in A level maths as I took it early and am predicted A*A in physics and further maths. Will the A in maths make me more likely to get a place?

Doubtful. Some unis actually look down on this 1+2 structure on the grounds that you haven't taken 3 subjects in a single sitting. Perhaps ask Bristol how they view your circumstances.

Probably not. You are on track to have achieved A*AA, which meets the minimum requirements, so you can apply, but doesn't fit the description of what they consider a competitive application. The fact that you did it a year early doesn't make the fact that you got an A better.
