Yep. Most people don't write personal statements this good even for UCAS applications, so I think you're in the clear.

Do whatever you feel like, but it's fine as it is. Unless you're applying for a sixth form that is ranked nationally or something, it really isn't that big of a deal. It's just there as something for them to get to know what kind of person you are, and confirm that you are sensible, mature etc. The personal statement is rarely a deal-breaker in and of itself (unless, as previously stated, you are going for a really top sixth-form in which case it may be more important).

Your grades, however, far outweigh any importance a personal statement might have. Focus on getting those as good as you can.

thank you so much!! i'll probably tweak some things here and there though, just in case. I'd say the sixth forms i'm applying to get impressive results (one had 96% A*-As, etc.), so they probably would pay attention to it? but its true that without the grades, the personal statement will be nothing. I’m definitely focused on improving my grades, but I mostly hover around 8s, few 7s, and I rarely manage to get a 9. hopefully that'll change by december mocks 🙏🏻

If those are the kinds of sixth forms you are applying to, then grades will talk much louder than a personal statement. Try your hardest to get/get predicted all 8s and 9s, this will help you application immeasurably. I got 12A* at GCSE if you want any revision tips, but otherwise good luck with your mocks.

12 A* is so impressive !! what'd you pick for your gcses? im mostly predicted 8s with 2 7s and a 9, but thats purely because my school capped the year10 mocks at 7s ( literally the highest you could get was a 7 ) and our current predicteds' are based on them ( which is very annoying ) i did speak my teachers, and they said the grades are based on the system and they cant change it 😞 hopefully it'll change by december

Standard stuff + FM, Econ, CS, D&T, Spanish and short course rs.

Yes, certainly talk to your teachers. Your predicted grades are very important, so make sure you do well in every test that has the potential to impact them.

yes 100%, im trying to revise everyday and cover at least a few subtopics of different subjects or one full topic for one subject. also do you have any tips for fm?? for context, we started furthermaths in the middle of year 10 and have lessons in our lunch times (30 mins) once a fortnight. so i basically have to teach the content to myself... i never know how to revise for spanish, i mostly do vocab flashcards and try some writing papers. how did you revise for listening and reading? btw sorry this thread is so long and im asking too many questions 😭

For further maths this is an excellent youtube playlist going over every single topic on the specification. My revision for further maths was basically just watching the playlist 3 separate times on 2x speed, making comprehensive notes on the topics, then completing all of the past papers. If you understand the topics fully, you will find Further Maths is actually a lot easier than normal GCSE maths, its literally just an exam where you have to regurgitate the same old techniques just with slightly different numbers.

For Spanish I just used duolingo every day and made sure to get my teacher to mark some of my tests (especially writing papers). I can't give great advice for Spanish unfortunately, but as a general point just make sure you are practicing it frequently, ideally every day. Maths is something you can cram for with a fair amount of success. Languages are not the same. Make sure you know your tenses really well, and memorise like 10 or 20 phrases that you can stick into any question, be it writing or speaking. Having some content you can fall back on in the worst case makes the whole thing much less stressful.

Can I take a guess and ask that your applying to either of the following schools: Brampton Manor, Harris Westminster ( I do NOT recommend this hell) , LAE and NCS?
If so, I can give you advice regarding the application process as I was an offer holder for each of them

also any help would be so appreciated !! im kind of clueless on what to do, or even if i should apply to those sixth forms since i feel like id get imposter syndrome loll 🤷🏻*♀️

PLS I was in your exact position last year and used to ask people sm questions, I live in west ldn so I was scared as I knew travelling seemed scary - st doms and twyford seem like normal state schools compared to the other top schools and are quite local to me but I chose to go LAE instead as it had greater A*-A and oxbridge offersss, also I don't recommend ncs lmao mainly bc of the social life, many of the students are introverted and there's only a specific demographic but I hear their rly good w STEM subjects ..

about the imposter syndrome, if you don't work well under pressure and are used to being the smartest at your school you're going to be insanely humbled (me rn), but honestly if your aspiring for top unis like oxbridge or lse, then id say its worth it as it prepares you as well as private schools do - come lae  ( or brampton, my boyfriend goes here so I can give you his insights too)

the application process does not acc matter that much( it DOES for brampton and lae), many people who had conditional offers got rejected on results day but your p.s is amazing and the perfect balance between ur subjects, achievements and love for academia - but I would put slightly more emphasis on the school itself and what you would get out of it. I just want to add that they prefer predicted grades > p.s, you can have a beautiful p.s and a poor grade profile and they wouldn't even look at it:curious:

out of all the schools, lae is the best (not biased I promise) because its the best mix between academic and social life and the people here are so great - mixed demographic of people <3

also, w harris they force you to do 4 a levels across the 2 years and have such rigorous intensity that doesn't even benefit there student as many achieve D grades and U grades...also force you to come in on Saturdays for intervention - search hwsf on tt and youll see the harsh reviews xx

lastly, the harris entrance exams are online and on some weird server, chem was rly hard I would have failed if the philosophy exam didnt pull my score up, but overall its doable if you revise like min 2 weeks before ( their usually in like jan?) and they have practice papers on their website, i acc didn't go to the interview but its basc like an oxbridge interview - ask u hard q's and you need to show them how you think, also doable if you love ur subject and can demonstrate ur love and good thinking. i just came on results day after achieving mostly 9s and secured a place but the teachers were quite rude and snappy w most subjects running out ( context = I wanted to do bio chem history philosophy) but chem was full and they suggested i do spanish instead as they thought their skl was that worth it - i evacuated the skl after the condescending tones bye

im in west ldn too!! im so scared of moving tbh i wouldve stayed in my school if it didnt have such low grades 🌚 im so scared, going to a mixed sixth form is going to be so weird after attending an all girls for the whole of secondary schl 😔 twyford and st doms are one of the few schools that are decent and close, thats the only reason why im considering them. also wdym by the ncs social life?? tbf their website looks quite intimidating and ive heard they give so much hw that the students barely had time to revise. im gonna pick bio chem maths and fm (save me im cooked) and i plan to go on to biochemistry/biotechnology so im guessing those schools will benefit me more??

i wouldnt say im the smartest person in my school ( some of my friends get straight 9s and 8s im js like how 🥲) but i do achieve high grades compared to the rest of the year group/ class, but i think im gonna feel really stupid since most people are going to be academic weapons lmaoo but yeah im def considering lae and brampton - the only thing is that im terrified of those schools and theyre all pretty hard to get into, especially with the interviews and tests...

im really trying to improve my grades (i had assessment week last week and it was hell so i really need to lock in) so hopefully my predicted grades will be better by december 🤞🏻 and ill definitley rewrite my ps so its more focused on the benefits of the school etc. - thank u sm for the feedback!! <3

how did you revise for the harris test?? i saw the practice papers but i honestly have no idea what subject to choose.. i searched up hwsf and wtf??!! i didnt expect any of that at all, kinda put off applying now... i see why you left 😭 but please do tell me more abt lae and brampton, what was the application process like and how are the people etc.

again im sorry abouting asking so many questions, and thank you so much for the advice !! <33
Hey, I'm gonna be completely completely completely honest and everyone on student room may disagree. but colleges literally literally do not give a monkeys about your personal statement. If you meet the entry requirements for their college, you'll get a place. When I applied to college, only one college skimmed through it, the rest barely even read it. So please don't worry too much ab it, you'll get in through grades. That's all they care ab genuinely.

i appreciate how ure direct !! im more worried about the actual application process (the tests, interviews etc) rather than the actual ps. im definitely trying to improve my grades, as all of them do meet their requirements but i personally want a higher grade in all of them. thank u sm for this !! <3

Tests and interviews? It's just one panel interview is it not? Well that's what it was for me?

Is there anything else more that you have to do? How intriguing

yep, the sixth forms i want to apply to have entrance exams, eg for harris westminster you need to choose what subjects you want to be tested on before in your applications.

and with the interviews - i have really bad anxiety + i hate being put on the spot, im no good at it tbh which is why it absolutely terrifies me 😭

honestly im clueless about most of the process which is mainly why i made this thread + i wanted to see if my ps was too much or not 😓
When's your deadline for the application?
