Pharmacy

Hi, Im looking into doing pharmacy without going to uni. What qualifications do I need? I already have excellent GCSEs & A levels (AAA in bio, chem, and math). I've researched and found I would need NVQ level 2, but idk what that is and if that is the same as NVQ 2 in dispensing. what jobs do I need to apply for? Pharmacy assistant? If someone can give me a detailed breakdown I'd be very thankful.
Hiya! From what I understand if you want to become a “pharmacist” the MPharm degree is the only way, however to become a pharmacy technician you can get trained for those I think on the job (a friend of mine working at the pharmacy I work at is). You could also just get a job in a pharmacy without training for now, as I work in one as a year 13 student.

Hi @lolalee_0

In order to be registered as a Pharmacist in the UK you must meet all standards given by the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical council) these involve placement requirements and learning objectives, which can only be offered to you from accredited course providers, which unfortunately only include Universities.

Therefore to become a Pharmacist you must complete an MPharm degree (masters in pharmacy)

However there are loads of positions within a pharmacy which do not require an MPharm, such as dispensing technicians, which after experience and the completion of courses, which many pharmacies allow to complete on the job, you could become an accuracy checking technician which allows you to check medications for dispensing and provide certain services to the public which normal dispensing technicians cannot do.

If you would like more information please ask
