Loughborough or Lancaster

I am struggling to choose between Lancaster and Loughborough.

I am planning on reading BA History and Politics with a predicted grade of ABB.

Which university is deemed more academic in this field?

Loughborough seems to have little or no academic reputation for Politics. Lancaster's slightly better for History too.

Employers don't seem to care that Lancaster might have slightly better research. Loughborough is older, attracts more private school students, and has better graduate prospects.

For similar grades, did you consider Nottingham, Birmingham, or Sheffield too?

Could you provide more information? Loughborough is a higher ranked university, in both history and politics and in general according to the complete university guide. I have studied at loughborough but did science. However I did used to know people who studied history and politics and never heard a complaint and they all moved onto jobs. loughborough is really good for careers stuff!

I can provide for information for loughborough if you need but if you could provide more information about how far you are from these locations, campus vs city life, sports etc to make a more better informed decision.

Loughborough is a great university and i just graduated from there and rent is much cheaper compared to most places. It's a great university and is a nice small town (so less social things to do but theres a few clubs, but the university host a lot of things and theres 2 cities nearby and you're well close to most places being in the midlands.

I am not interested in clubbing or drinking culture. I am on the autistic spectrum so neurodiversity support will be useful to.

Loughborough only started offering a history degree a few years ago. Initially it was mainly politics, IR and various other modules from various departments and still seems to have that feel.

We are considering Sheffield.

Looks a beautiful building and it's long had a pretty strong rep for research in Politics. My concern is the city - I was looking round Hallam at the time in the mid 90s, to be fair, but I didn't get a fun feel from the city. Hence possibly why it created the sardonic eye of Jarvis Cocker from Pulp.
So I always insist visiting before accepting any place.

You should consider Liverpool University too! Liverpool is great and history and the city has a lot of history.

I am not interested in clubbing or drinking culture. I am on the autistic spectrum so neurodiversity support will be useful to.

I have ADHD and I felt supported I recieved extra time and any other support that I thought i might need they would try their best to accomodate, it's best to get that sorted before you start any university obviously contact them before you get the place so it's all setup ready for you.

I think all universities have good support, I can vouch for loughborough though they are really helpful. Any other questions?

I'd also reccomend speaking to careers advice at your school/college as they will also be able to advise based on your grades you may be able to get into a more 'prestigious' university or a department that has had history for longer. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with loughborough. i'm sure lancaster is great too but obviously i don't know anything about it.

One thing I would bare in mind though is that loughborough is a very sporty university, it's just built into the culture of the university and attending/watching sporting events HOWEVER, I'm not into sports and many aren't and it was fine but something also to factor.

I think with ABB you could definately get into a more well known university for history, but again loughborough is really good and it's ranked highly for a reason. Perhaps look into the modules of the universities, connections to roles/jobs/industries etc to see which is more suited to you.
