Uni Suggestions Please - Biological Sciences 🙏

I'm resitting Psychology and Biology, I haven't gotten my predicted yet but let's assume they're from AAB-A*A*B (bcs I'm trying to be optimistic) (the B is in graphic design that I've already done) I'm applying for biological Sciences currently but might switch to politics and international relations. I'm mainly looking at russell groups like Warwick, Exeter, Cardiff but also possibly East Anglia.

Can I get some suggestions of Unis that I could go to both russell and non-russell.

Also could I get some suggestions for if I don't achieve within those grade boundaries as backups.

Thanks
Hi there,

In terms of Russell Group universities, Warwick, East Anglia and The University of Manchester are good options for Politics and International Relations. Queen Mary, LSE and Kings College are also great options if you are hoping to study in London.

In terms of non-Russell group universities, I would strongly suggest SOAS due to its renowned resources in Politics and International Relations and its non Eurocentric approach. The University of Bath is also a good choice for a non Russell group university.

If you do not achieve your predicted grades, I would suggest applying through clearing as a lot of universities often have extra spaces for a range of degrees. The clearing process is explained in detail on the UCAS website.

Good luck with your exams and your search for your future uni!

Hello!

Yes in terms of a non-RG university I'd say that Bath is a good choice too. We offer biology, biochem and biomedical sciences degrees, as well as politics and intl relations. I would encourage you to have a look into the courses at different unis and try to choose one with content that sparks your interest - as well as visiting the uni to get a feel for whether or not its right for you.

Personally I loved my time at Bath when I was a student here (I did psychology). What I loved most about it was the chance to do a placement year which was a great thing to add to my CV for the future as well as a lot of fun. I also valued the excellent grad prospects and safe, small-ish city.

I hope this helps, very best of luck in your decisions!

Ah, best of luck on your studies!

Cardiff is a brilliant place to study the biological sciences - the department is pretty good here! Let me know if I can help answer any specific questions you had about the uni

I am going to apply to Bath for Biomedicine. I didn’t get predicted yet but hoping for AAA , but in case of it’s AB or BB ( Biology and Chemistry) can I still get an offer ? IGSCE is A*88877776
Or just in case if clearance?

Bath is not mega-competitive for Bio Sciences - so even with predictions below the entry requirements, you are likely to get an offer.

Hiya again,

Thanks for the response and great to hear you're planning to apply to Biomed! I would say its very difficult to predict whether you will get an offer or not, however, if your predicted grades end up matching the grade requirements of AAA then theres no reason why you couldn't make a very competitive application if you made sure you got as much support as poss with your personal statement and tell us about any mitigating circumstances if you have them.

At the time of writing we do specify As in both Biology and Chem, so I would say just carry on doing the best you can with those A levels, don't leave your classes with unanswered questions and get support for any area of the curriculum you don't fully understand - put in your application and see how it goes. Just make sure that you take a look a couple of back up unis with grades pitched just below what your predicted grades are to make sure you have a safety net.

Wishing you the best of luck!!!

To know the specifics you'd have to call up the admissions team - they'd be the best people to answer on individual circumstances. 01225 383019. I know that's not super-helpful but its so hard to predict who will get an offer as Bath consider a lot of different factors when looking at an application. As McGinger has said, Bath is a prestigious uni but not as competitive as some other unis for your subject and yes I'd say you have every chance of receiving an offer - just keep up the good work 🙂

Hi there,

It sounds like you’re in a great position academically, and UEA could be an excellent choice for you. Although it’s not a Russell Group university, UEA has a stellar reputation, especially for Biological Sciences. It’s well-regarded for research, and the campus itself has a real community feel, which students love. Plus, Norwich is a vibrant city with loads going on—perfect for both student life and getting focused during your studies. I did Biomedicine and currently doing a PhD in Biology at the School of Biological Sciences and have had a great experience.

If you’re also considering Politics and International Relations, UEA has strong offerings in those areas too!

Let me know if you have any questions about UEA or school - I'd love to help!

Best,
Daniel

I've seen a lot of people mentioning gcse's as part of their application, mine weren't incredible for the top uni standards: 77777644L2P, I think my personal statement shows interest, I read books and new scientist and have done work experience. Is this enough?
