Previous Study at Private Institution and Eligibility for Tuition Fee Loan

Hi,

I previously studied at a private institution abroad but didn’t obtain a qualification. The studies were fully self-funded, and I withdrew after the first semester on two separate occasions.
Would I still be eligible for a tuition fee loan?

Thank you.

Hi there,

Can you please tell us what kind of course you were studying?

Was it full-time or part-time?

Thanks, Graeme

It was a full-time course (computer science).
It was a full-time course (computer science).

Thanks - if you finished this course would you have received a degree (or the equivalent of a UK degree)?

Thanks, Graeme

Thanks for answering - based on what you've said you'll be entitled to a Tuition Fee Loan in all years except the first year.

Due to your previous study you won't be entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan in that year.

However, we can award you another year of funding if you had Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) for not completing your previous course.

For example, you can provide evidence of this when you apply. Please see the link below for more details.

Thanks, Graeme

Would CPR cover both times I’ve quit my course, or can it only be granted for one year? I’m sorry, but I forgot to mention that 3 years ago, I started studying in the UK and began one semester (SFE paid around £2,500). I had to quit that time again because I had to return to my country to support my mother while she was in the hospital.

Thank you

Hi there,

If you have Compelling Personal Reasons for 2 years then you can submit evidence for each year and be awarded 2 more years of funding for the Tuition Fee Loan if approved.

Thanks, Drew
