Can’t get into my dream uni

I’m really disappointed because it turns out i don’t have a subject requirement for the university that would’ve been perfect for me because i chose a BTEC. The Course, location, prestigious ranking, everything would’ve been perfect for me. It’s too late for me to pick up a different A level so i just don’t know what to do? Can anyone help.

Is it a hard requirement? What course and uni?

They want Btec in applied science, psychology or applied human biology. Unfortunately my Btec is in health and social care, I’m also doing 2 a levels psychology and English language

Has the uni categorically told you this now? I know a couple of days ago you were awaiting a response from them.

Hi yes. They told me unfortunately the entry requirements are quite strict and offer no flexibility at all, not even in clearing.

Hi thanks for your comment. It’s for UoB(Birmingham) - psychology. The requirement is for the BTEC to be in applied science, applied psych, or applied human biology. Unfortunately I’m doing health and social care alongside 2 a level psychology + English language.

University is a tool, it’s far more important to have a plan for what you want to achieve through university rather than where you want to go.

Once you have this in place you can determine which universities will have a suitable platform for you (it’s never one institution, it’s probably dozens… if it is only one or two unis then you need to do more research and broaden horizons).

If you really feel your qualifications are inappropriate after this then look at alternatives such as going back a year & doing A-levels, foundation years…

Hi thanks for your comment. Many other universities accept me. It’s just this ONE specifically would’ve been perfect due to location, the course modules i really enjoy, and the university itself. But i understand there’s lots more choices it’s just a bit disappointing but I appreciate your outlook thanks!

Easier said than done, but try to move on from UoB. It sounds like it has become the forbidden fruit for you, so not being able to have it makes it even more attractive. There are many unis that are just as good as UoB, with great courses, and where you will have a great time.

Thankyou sooo much! I needed to hear that, I will try my best to move on
Its good advice. UoB maybe a really great choice but nowhere is perfect and there will be advantages on other courses that make them equally good places to study too.
