I would recommend 'Criminology' by Tim Newburn (3rd edition)- this is a huge textbook but I was given it before I started at university and found it accessible as an A-level student who had studied Criminology before. The textbook is huge but covers lots of key concepts in Criminology (of which I have re-visited and studied again at university) so it gives a good taster into the subject. It is a bit pricey new, but can be picked up second hand a lot cheaper on sites like ebay etc. Newburn is a key thinker in Criminology too, and his work is really interesting!

I also found that my A-level criminology text book gave a good overview of Criminology too, I did a WJEC Level 3 Diploma and found the Criminology textbook helpful. While it is geared towards the qualification, exam, and coursework, it gives a good overview of the different theories of crime, for example Biological, Psychological theories, and I found it nice and accessible at A-level. A preview of the textbook can be found here, and can be picked up second-hand online a lot cheaper!

As you are in year 12, it might be useful to see if there is any other texts available in your schools library for example, or if any of your teachers have any recommendations, as librarians and teachers are good at recommending texts for your level of understanding. But of course, there's nothing wrong with challenging yourself and reading a more challenging text if you can!😊
