What about the questions like y’know in business studies we have this specific way of answering a question so..is it the same for economics..?

Uh sorry - I didn’t do Business Studies or Economics for GCSE, just doing Econ for A-Level. Could you be more specific?

I’m sorry..so basically whenever we have to answer a 3 marker question 6 marker question 9 marker question or 12 we have a specific format on answering that type of questions like example 3 marker question newer is a format of answering the question then the 2 developing points supporting that question like that do we have the same or similar way of answering economics question
It’s same thing in like let’s take biology we have to write a specific word or phrase then only we get the mark
Is there any format on answering an economics question..?
And how’s the theory of economics is it hard or like fairly okay..?

Yes, you kind of have a similar thing for Economics if I understand you correctly. You get knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation marks. Knowledge marks are for things like definitions. Application is for using given extracts, drawing graphs, using examples. Evaluation is for points that are basically 'it depends on' - not quite sure how to explain this but it's fairly simple to understand. Each question has a different number of these categories of marks awarded to it and that indicates how in-depth your answer should be. Whether you find the theory of economics hard is dependent on your personal skill-set but I personally think it's ok as there are so many practical examples to help you understand the theory.

Yes there is - for the essays (10, 12, 15 and 25 markers), you'd be encouraged to have a KAA (Knowledge, Application, Analysis) paragraph and an evaluation paragraph. It's not a rigid structure but it's probably the best way to answer questions.

Theory is mostly ok (I'm in Y12 so I can only speak about the first year...) - some people really struggle but honestly you should be fine. Theme 1 (micro) was pretty straight-forward throughout - the last couple of bits like externalities were a bit too tricky. Theme 2 (macro) is probably a bit easier and you shouldn't really have a problem. Can't really say much more...

hi I do edexcel A Econ, I really like learning about market failure ,but I find the essay writing so difficult . I use uplearn cause my school provides it and im memorising the content by flashcards, im just struggling on how to write the perfect Econ essay.

I think you're not alone in the essay writing department. A lot of students struggle with this. I would advise the following in case it's helpful. I've taught numerous students and have coached them from grade C to A.

1.

Flashcards are good, but recognition is a different skill from recall. Can you write out the definition of a concept concisely and correctly.

2.

The perfect econ essay a A level level (not degree level) is actually based on the mark scheme and is not truly about your intelligence. There are very specific ingredients to this and if you understand how the mark scheme works, the essay becomes a box ticking exercise.

3.

Skills like evaluation do require reading around the subject. For every concept, I would start to gather evaluation points. For example, if externalities comes up, what two evaluation points can you have in your pocket to always be able to write about.

Happy to expand or answer more questions on this, hope it's helpful. Your teacher should be able to unpack the mark scheme with you, beyond just giving it to you 🙂

Hi, I really struggle to create chains of reasoning in my long answer questions. Is there a acronym or any structure or anything that I can use to help my with this? For example, BLTMC in business studies has been really helpful for me.
Thank you.

I totally get you. I’m not aware of any acronyms, but it can be helpful to use diagrams as part of your chains of reasoning and thinking about what you are shifting on your diagram and why you are shifting it. I hope that’s somewhat helpful?
