Applying to university for psychology - help!!

so i've been looking at university's for a while and since ucas only lets us pick 5 im stuck on which uni's to pick. my predicted grades are aaa - i've looked at so many universities, i used to really like university of bath but i plan to go onto a masters in forensic psychology so i would prefer a bachelors in psychology that had optional modules of forensics and suitable work placement where forensic psychology can be applied.
im thinking to pick uni of worcester as one of my safe options but majority of the ones i've looked at are like aaa or aab so im not sure which ones to go for. also, im not too fussy on accommodation but i'd like somewhere that offers affordable living thats closer to the campus. any help greatly appreciated!!
Have you been to any University Open Days?

Hey @lilerxn

Having to try and pick 5 unis is really difficult! Well done on your predicted grades.

The best thing to do at this time is to visit university open days. You still have time to finalise your 5 so why not visit a variety of universities to help you decided. Then you can include location impacts, accommodation, modules in your specific course.

Visiting universities can really make your mind up easily. I was set on an apprenticeship but as soon as I visited Kingston I loved the facilities, the lecturers, feel of the school and especially the location which you wouldn't even think of when looking at just a course online!

Once at an open day too you can then talk further about grades and what decisions you want to make in your final 5.

I hope this helped

Hey 👋

It can be tricky to pick 5 options, I know I struggled! I'd agree with the advice below about visiting open days to get a good feel for universities, if it's a campus or city based uni, take a look around the facilities and library, student union etc. But if you can't get to visit in person, many universities will have some kind of virtual tour or videos where you can take a look at facilities and campus from home, or take a look at their social media too!

I know when I was making a decision I looked at the course specification and the modules on offer - you've mentioned about wanting to do forensic psychology and looking at these optional modules so that's definitely a good idea! If there are any student testimonials too they can be helpful to get a student perspective on studying the course and their university experience. I made a list of 'pros and cons' for each university I was considering which helped me map things out and see clearly the differences between courses and universities, if there were any opportunities like study abroad or internships.

I hope that helps! And if you have any other questions, we're all here to help on the student room ☺️ good luck!

Hi @lilerxn

It can be really tough to slim down your choice to just five, but I think with AAA predicted grades you are in a great position 🙂

I wondered if you had considered the University of East Anglia to do Psychology with a Placement Year? It's BPS Accredited, which is an absolute must for any Psychology course, contains an excellent optional forensics module in the final year (I did it last year and know people on it currently if you'd like to speak with them) and UEA has excellent links with the local police force that regularly take placement students. For instance, I did the placement year with the police and it was amazing, I got to see a court trial, go behind-the-scenes with the detectives and barristers, and speak with prisoners- all really great stuff that will give you an edge on getting onto that forensics masters.

Looking at the contextual and typical offers on that linked webpage I think you'd have a really strong application if you decided to pick UEA as one of your top five. There is plenty of accommodation on campus and Norwich itself is a really lovely place- lots of shops and places to eat and great bus links too.

If you'd like to speak any more about the UEA course, living/studying at UEA or you'd like to speak to the forensic module organiser, I'm more than happy to answer any more questions and/or put you in touch!

Best of luck,
Grace
