GCSEs and what to do after

Hey!! New to TSR, hope these types of questions aren't too common and annoying.

I'm quite new to the UK (moved here in late 2022 and began attending school in May last year) and haven't considered career paths until recently. It seems like everyone around me has already gotten placements in colleges or has a general idea of what they want to do post-exams, which is worrying.

I'm stuck in a constant loop of what to do and was given a very small overview of what exams to choose and chose ones that won't really benefit me.

Does anyone have any tips on figuring out what to do for A-levels, T-levels, etc? It's really stressing both me and my family out, as I don't want to go for the basic choice of maths, science, or something else.

For a little background, I'm a very creative person. I've been really set on doing biology or physics in the future but realized it won't make me happy in the slightest. I enjoy doing film studies for my GCSEs and it's currently my best subject (got a 7 in summer mocks), and am considering something relating to performance arts or media. However, I lack the usual requirements needed for subjects I enjoy, such as drama GCSEs for the A level or a humanities subject for something similar.

Will I just have to follow my gut with my college decisions? It's already October and I have no clue where or what'll do. I'd love any kind of advice !

Many many thanks!!! :-)

My advice would be to have a look online for what sixth forms there are in your area- Locrating can help with this as it shows you all the schools in your local area from your postcode and then you can filter to find 16-18 institutions.
Once you’ve found your options for different schools, you can go through the courses listed on their website and see what appeals to your interests and strengths. One way to do this is to write down all the courses and then read some info on them (schools generally have a page on the course) and cross it off if it doesn’t appeal to you. Look at entry requirements which will be based on your GCSE grades to see if you’ll likely qualify for the courses. Once you’ve done that you should have a good idea of your options even if you’re not fully set yet.
What you do then is you apply to different schools with courses you might want to do- ask you school about this as how its done varies around the country!
You dont have to make a final decision about anything until results day in mid August so you’ve got plenty of time! But it’s definitely a good idea to scope out your options early and make sure you’re applying to schools in time!
Hope this helps and happy to try to answer any more questions if you have them 🙂 Hope you have an amazing day

Thank you so much! I'll make sure to do that and keep my options open just in case. Locrating sounds like a great idea 🙃
