HAT 2024 (urgent)

Hi,
Just wondering if they’ll give us a physical copy of the source or if everything will be 100% digital?
I prefer to annotate physical paper in front of me with a pen/highlighter rather than slowly clicking on text to highlight it digitally.

Pretty sure it’s all digital- check out the online practice test section. Good luck to you my friend, we are all going to be fine

Did it end up working out for you? I am at my test centre and for some reason it got cancelled due to technical difficulties?

To be honest, not really. The time just flew by and nothing felt too real so my answer was very basic😭😭
Doing the test digitally wasn’t too bad so if you have to do it another time then don’t worry.
Hopefully, it all works out for us!!

You’re going to go back? I waited from 10-12pm and nothing happened so I had to leave and I called pearson they said it should be rescheduled.

Yes, they told me to come back in an hour. I’m in the test centre rn waiting for them to call me in. Who knows the same thing could happen to me and I might have to reschedule for another day. The guy working here told me that everyone should take the test today, at least at this test centre

I can’t imagine they will allow you to take the test now. There were people done with the test by 9:05 am and leaving. If you’re on the net at a test centre after people have already done the test I don’t really see how they can let you or anyone take that test. So maybe a different test on another day? Or like last year with the problems with the ELAT Oxford just said not doing the test won’t be held against you.

Hi I haven’t taken the test yet as my test centre scheduled it for 3pm! So I’m sure rescheduling is an option. I’m very nervous, how bad is it?

I can’t see how that can go ahead and be a legit test? There are people who have been out of that test since 9 am fully aware of what the test is. They must have a backup test that is different. Anyway hope it goes well if you get to do it.

Nope, I have now completed the test. It was also definitely the same test as everyone else, I confirmed that with someone from my school who also took it. The times are staggered across the day anyway, it would of course be possible to ask someone what the topic was before you’ve taken it yourself. You have to sign an NDA so they could take legal action if you discuss the contents anyway

I believe the system is back up now, so most people still should be okay to take it today. I think it was down from around 9 to about 11, so there shouldn't be a stupid amount of backlog, although i guess it depends on how many people went home and rescheduled it for tomorrow

Have people been able to reschedule their test? I can't find any option to reschedule mine on Pearson's website and when I phoned the service team I was essentially told I'd be emailed later once they had sorted the problems. My understanding is that any appointments after 11am were 'rescheduled' and many before that time were delayed - at least at my test centre because a friend who was supposed to do it at 10:30 ended up doing it around 2.

I had signed in at like 10:15 and sat it at 11:10, but people did walk in after 11 and sit it at my centre. Its a shame they arent being very helpful with providing any info

Seems like a big problem. The whole point of the HAT is to have a level playing field for all which is hard to do now with people sitting it on different days. If they made people do other tests then it would make the scoring system meaningless as you can't compare two different candidates who did two different sources.

Everyone sits the same test, that's why you sign an NDA at the start, not a foolproof system but more fair than giving people different sources. In some places test centres are very spread out so there wouldn't be enough computers in some places to have everyone sit it at the same time, and some people would have to travel too far to get there for the 8am slot, hence the staggered times.

Sorry but that can’t be a fair test. There were people online asking about the test and then going in and sitting the test at 11:30 am and after. That is outrageous and that’s being kind.

I had about the same phone conversation it sounds like! I was due to sit it at 9:45 and I arrived at 9:30, 15 minutes early like it said to. As i checked in they told me there were minor technical difficulties, but after I waited an hour they just cancelled it. I got given an email to contact but then my email came back, telling me the email address no longer existed. I finally managed to find a phone number and call them at 3:30 and they said I would get an email. I've had nothing so far and same here with no option to reschedule or anything. Have you managed to sort anything out yet?
