how to get better at french listening

Hi kirstine123,

Thank you for your question, and well done for learning French; it isn't an easy language, especially when it comes to listening to it.
Do you need to enhance your listening skills for an exam, or just to get more fluent in general/for general conversations, maybe for career progression?
Regardless of what it is, I recommend listening to things in French in which you're interested in. This could mean audiobooks on topics that pique your interests, listening to music lyrics in genres you enjoy listening to, watching films in French that you like watching. Read subtitles/lyrics in French if you need to simultaneously as well.
Of course, listening to the good old CD's/audio files conventional to foreign language classes can also be good and a necessity to familiarize and get comfortable with for an oral exam in French. What I have found, however, is if you make the language you are learning a part of your leisure time, as in the above examples, you make it more natural for you and make it feel less like a task, which enhances - and speeds up - learning in my experience. Also, like this, you can get a taste of real-life examples of French talking, which can help you to engage in conversation with native speakers better. Speaking of which, if you have the opportunity, try to engage with native speakers, either through face-to-face conversation, such as with a native friend, if you have one, or even if you have the chance and feel up to going to French speaking areas either as part of a study related/exchange program or even as a holiday.
If for any reason you don't have the opportunity to engage with native speakers face-to-face, foreign language learning apps and online pen-pals/fellow foreign language learners that are native French speakers can also be a good opportunity to enhance your fluency.

Lastly, how long have you been learning French, and, most importantly, do you like learning it?

Please don't hesitate to ask any more questions should you want to and I will try and answer to the best of my ability!

Best wishes,
Viki
