Friendliest Durham college?

Which Durham colleges have the friendliest / least toxic atmospheres? I have heard a few bad stories about Hatfield for example.

Hiya,

Although there are certain stereotypes about specific colleges, most if not all colleges are basically the same, the difference is who you surround yourself with. If you're looking for more 'traditional' colleges, the bailey colleges are your best bet but if you're looking for more 'modern' colleges, then you may want to look at the hill colleges; still, both modern/traditional colleges have their pros and cons and people you meet that may leave a bad impression. My college is known for 'not having a toxic atmosphere' but there was a lot of toxicity and many unfriendly people but because I distanced myself from it, I wasn't as effected by it so it really does depend on who you meet and how you handle it 🙂 I know this probably doesn't help and you were looking for a more straightforward answer but to be frank, as someone who has been at Durham for 3 years now, all colleges tend to be more or less the same. I would suggest looking at what type of college you're interested, whether you want catered or self catered and location; as well as chatting with students on UniBuddy and getting a better idea of the collegiate system at Durham.

I hope this helps!
