Railcard plan

I’ll probably end up buying the 16-25 railcard to avoid trouble but I wanna know how this idea wouldn’t work: I bought a railcard when I was 17 a month ago and I took a screenshot of it (not the barcode just the screen that says 16-17 railcard for me) I turned 18 a year ago and I’m wondering, if someone were to buy a ticket and put the 16-17 saver and if an inspector asks, they just show the screenshot, how would this play out?

I would have thought that inspectors would not find a screenshot adequate evidence of age.

Also, you bought a Railcard when you were "17 a month ago, yet you "turned 18 a year ago"?
Screenshots don’t count as adequate proof, you need to provide a live image of your rail card.

Personally I ordered a physical card as opposed to a digital one, just because it can live in my wallet and if my phone dies for whatever reason, I’m not screwed…

I’ve also done something mildly dishonest but they don’t need to know… I’ve had the university sign about 5-6 railcard forms (I’m a mature student). That way I can keep getting them as they’re more useful than the standard one limiting you to just the south east… 😂

It's been a few years since I last had a railcard, so I'm not sure how they work these days -- but I do remember that the railcard app showed the details with an animated background. Obviously a screenshot isn't going to have that.

Bear in mind that if you get caught travelling with a railcard discount you're not entitled to, you'll be committing a criminal offence. And it's quite common for the railway companies to go back through your ticket purchasing history (if you've bought online) so they can claim retrospectively for any unpaid/underpaid fares -- not just for the specific journey they catch you on.
