OCR GCSE Computer Science.

HI. I did GCSE OCR computer science in Y10 and I achieved a grade 9. I had to self-learn for it, so I basically know where all the grade 9 revision resources are.
If anyone needs any help on any aspect of computer science OCR I will be happy to help. From the Theory, to Programming feel free to ask any questions  .

Do you know where to find past papers please? Also how many times you went through the past papers and what was your scores? How long time did you prepare for the exam, starting from the Day one of studying? Massive thanks.

Hi, here is a list of the top GCSE Computer science resources I used:
1) THE SPECIFICATION: The specification lists out every topic that could come on the exam and the exact stuff you need to know about the topic. It has nothing more, nothing less. However, you have to make sure you are using the spcification for the EXAM BOARD your school is using. If you don't know which one it is ask you teacher (Most schools do OCR but some also do AQA). I did OCR CS so I used the OCR specification: https://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/558027-specification-gcse-computer-science-j277.pdf .
-Once you have the specification you can use it to see what you need to learn and memorise. You can then use it to make revision notes then memorise them by reading through them constantly/memorising them.
2) CRAIG'N'DAVE (YOUTUBE CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Up7DIPkTzo&list=PLCiOXwirraUAEhj4TUjMxYm4593B2dUPF&index=1 ): This is a REALLY GOOD channel that concisely explains all the THEORY you need to know and doesn't skip any parts of the specification. The link given is the OCR playlist, but if you do a different exam board they also have different playlists for different exam boards. Use this channel to UNDERSTAND the key concepts and then make revision notes following the specification.
3) MRBROWNCS ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbeq3HIxgcY&list=PL04uZ7242_M4TIOuFkX0SJAekelbblp5H ): This a PYTHON playlist which is very important for paper 2. You need to be good at programming as that is a big part of paper 2.
4) CSNEWBS (WEBSITE: https://www.csnewbs.com/ocr-gcse ): This is a website for OCR CS covering all the theory needed. You can use it to also aid you to make revision notes as it has solid points especialy when it comes the many adv/dis you need to memorise.
5) REVISION NOTES: The way to utilise these resources to get a grade is simple. Use the craig'n'dave channel to UNDERSTAND the concept. Then use the specification and make revision notes that DIRECTLY answer the specification point. Then all you need to do is memorise them. I used ANKI (a flashcard app) to memorise all the notes.

HOWEVER, if you don't want to make revision notes yourself (it is a bit long), you can find some on STUVIA (a website for revision notes). I would recommend revision notes made by CSandRS as they are very high-quality covering the full OCR SPECIFICATION. Just search CSandRS in the stuvia search bar. They have notes for paper 1, paper 2 & a full coding guide for python.

I hope this helps 🙂 .

1) Find the past papers in the EXAM BOARD SITE. (you will also find the specification there).
2) I first memorised revision notes (see tips on this in my other message). Then near exam time I did all the past papers I could find. My average score was above 70/80. The reason I got such high scores was because I memorised notes that were following the spec, so I there was nothing I didn't know
3) I self-learned so I went through the content in a very fast pace. It took me 3.5 months to learn the content by watching craig-n-dave videos and making notes in a book. Then it took me 2 months to use ANKI to memorise the revision notes made by CSandRS (from stuvia). It took me 1/2 a month to learn python (I already knew some). I did practice questions/papers for 1 month. So in total 7 months.
