Choosing epq topic

Hello, I’m in year 12, and I’m currently deciding what topic to do for my epq research.

I’m doing bio chem math a level, and hoping to do med/vetmed in uni.

Would doing epq on a specific type of cancer(triple negative breast cancer) be okay? Or would it be too specific so that it doesn’t look good on my uni application. I was thinking of doing it because I have personal experience with it, but I also am thinking about doing more of a broad topic (e.g. cancer treatment in children. etc.) which would be better?

100% go for the more specific one. Unis love to hear that you have really specific interests that you can talk about in a lot of depth. Your more specific title also seems a lot more academic to me. Definitely don't worry about not having enough to write about - pretty much everyone finds that they have too much to say about their topic and ends up having to cut down on their word count. On a separate note, I recommend using the PubMed database to look at medical academic journals. It's all free and very credible.

I suggest that you go broad such as cancer treatment in children to enable you to have more to talk about and you can also cover more areas. Good luck.

Your supervisor will probably give you advice on this, but I would go for a narrower title as long as you're sure there are enough resources for you to write about it! My initial title was too broad and I was told to try and make the scope of my title narrower so I could be more analytical and go into greater detail.

As you’re right at the start of your epq, it’s probably a good idea to begin with a broader topic so you can show decision making skills when you narrow it down (even if you narrow it down to your current specific idea).
