Bath or Birminham chemical engineering

I am mainly motivated by money and graduate prospects, and am potentially going to do a masters in the US
which uni is better for chemical engineering bath or birmingham
I have visited bath and like how quiet it was and have not visited birmingham and have only used pictures and online reviews. However i know someone who graduated from birmingham and has a very good job and says birmingham is more racially diverse.
Bath has a higher ranking in UK ranks yet birmingham is ranked higher globally and is a russell group university.
I want somewhere with good prospects as well as a good balance of social life.

Whichever you choose - make sure its a degree with a placement year.
This adds heaps to your graduate CV.

Hi there, glad to hear that you’re considering Bath!

As you’re probably aware, the Faculty of Engineering & Design at the University of Bath has consistently performed as one of the best in the country. Chemical engineering in particular continues to rank very highly. Therefore, if you value academic experience highly, Bath is definitely a good choice.

Bath is a lot smaller and quieter than Birmingham, but there are still plenty of ways to stay socially active both on campus and in the city. While we may not have the same city atmosphere as Birmingham, we still value diversity, and the support systems on campus work to ensure everyone feels included and connected.

You mentioned considering a master’s degree in the US. Bath is recognized internationally, especially in the field of engineering, and many Bath graduates do pursue postgraduate studies other countries. Nowadays, the title of ‘Russel Group’ is less essential, as many of the top universities in the UK are not a part of it, which employers are aware of.

As mentioned above, placement years are very valuable to employers as they show you have real-world experience. At Bath, we have excellent links with employers, and the placement year is a key feature a lot of the courses here. Many students are offered jobs after carrying out their placements, guaranteeing employment after graduation. This is a major reason why Bath's graduate employment rates are consistently high. In some departments, there is even the option of doing your placement year abroad so if you secure one in the US, this will definitely give you a head start.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with
Lauren, University of Bath
