MSc grade

Guys I’m in a really difficult situation and Its just getting difficult day by day no matter how hard I’m trying. At this point it’s more than 50% chance that I will fail my MSc course due to one assessment. I submitted an assessment like a month after its deadline and its EC was rejected just a day before I submitted it. I had a meeting with my programme lead and student support and my programme lead was like now that your EC is rejected you have zero in this assessment and the only way to now get an MSc is to get 100% on the MCQ of this module. Which is nearly impossible. I have been having health issues and tbh it’s just overall bad luck going on for me which I know is not a reasonable reason but idk if I can appeal (Bcz my programme lead said there’s no appeal option however someone previously said to me that if EC rejected you can appeal) ask for any other form of alternative assessment or just submit another EC to ask for suspension of late submission penalties. Do you guys think any of these will work??

Also I have not even passed my MSc yet but I feel like even if I will pass I have not future ahead Bcz all my taught modules grades are either 50 or if they are more than 50 they are capped at 50 due to late submission penalties. I just feel so unlucky Bcz this situation feels so much like as if I was never supposed to get an MSc and things just kept on happening to lead to this outcome. After such bad grades (even if I pass) and doing the course in like double the time it’s normally done do you think I will have any chance of phd or a job in the UK as an international student? Btw my research project dissertation I still have to submit and it’s not capped at 50% so maybe if I get a good grade in it it can help my future but the thing is my supervisor thinks that I m not a good student makes excuses and not committed to my studies. Btw my course is clinical respiration. Do you guys think I still have change to change this situation and perhaps my future I’m just too scared. Also just to mention that I’m international student and my visa is until December 2024 and I also want to switch to graduate visa but not sure if I’ll be eligible for that :frown: please guys read my msg and advice I really need help, thanks.

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear that, it sounds like a really stressful situation.

Have you tried contacting your Student Union for advice? It depends uni to uni, but sometimes you can get appointments with your SU for advice. Alternatively, if your university has a wellbeing team, they may be able to support you and give you some advice on what to do.

Yes I contacted them. I have been in touch with student well-being team and while I was trying my best and still was not able to submit on time, they said to me that it’s okay in a sense that take care of yourself first and if your EC gets rejected you can appeal for it I remember a mental health coordinator saying that “if it gets rejected we can fight for it” but in todays meeting where someone (a different person) from student wellbeing team was present they said that you can’t appeal and that student wellbeing can’t advocate on your behalf. I’m afraid what if the person who said I can appeal also now says that I can’t appeal once an EC is rejected. Tbh getting 100% on an MCQ exam seems very unrealistic I mean I just feel like they offered this solution just so that I fail. They could have asked me to submit essay on a different topic or any other form of alternative assessment.

My department has said that I can submit another EC however UCLs policy is that ECs submitted for the same condition are unlikely to be accepted. But my condition is same plus tbh I don't have strong evidence. I didn't go to gp in the past month bcz my programme lead advised me to see student well-being team whenever I face any issue but now they need gp visits evidence. I have actually been unwell and struggled but idk whats the best way to make them understand this!! Please guys advice me I really need help as I have no family support or friends
