MLAT Oxford Applicants 2025

Hello everyone!

I was just revising furiously for my MLAT exam tomorrow for German and was wondering if there were any others in the same boat as me who are also applying for Modern Languages this year at Oxford. There doesn't seem to be much representation online for us linguists and I wanted to make an official chat for all of us!
I've applied for English and German at Somerville and I wanted to hear from anyone else doing any language course similar and if so, at what college?!

Not super similar but I'm applying for Spanish and Linguistics at Hertford (very jealous that you're doing German tho). I feel like I've not met anyone going for MFL irl so I'm very eager to chat about application stuff. So stressed for tomorrow as I have no idea what a good mark is or how many people there will be lol. How are you feeling about it?

Hey! Applicant for German and Beginners' Russian at St Edmund Hall here. Done my MLAT - German section was pretty good. First page of LAT was okay I think, second page was pure damage control ☹️ Does anyone know if there's a pass mark for the LAT?

I'm feeling ok.... I think. I fell into a rabbit hole yesterday of looking at statistics for admissions for Language students and the MLAT is a very minor part of the application process. Although it is important to do well in everything, it seems to me that your MLAT score does not have to be incredible to get an interview (thank god!) Unlike other courses at Oxford, there's a very high chance that you will get an interview for languages in relation to other subjects such as physics or maths (which again is great). Although languages are a dying art in England, we're the very few who are still keeping it alive which is an achievement in and of itself! GOOD LUCKK!!😃

Yeesh there was so much vocab I didn't know! Just crossing my fingers that everyone else found it tricky too. How did you feel about it?

The multiple choice was low-key more difficult than past papers, I know for a fact I already have one wrong and 2-3 im unsure of, just trusted my gut and intuition. Translation was much easier for me just one vocab i didnt know so i just said something that I thought it could be. I'm going a bit crazy looking at mlat stuff and overthinking my answers
