Masters at Oxbridge grading criteria

What are the chances of being able to do a masters at Oxbridge with a low 2:1 at undergrad from either of those universities. The minimum entry is a high 2:1, so I am just wondering if anyone has done something similar, and what the other important criteria are. Do Oxbridge favour their undergrad students to the extent they will overlook a lower 2:1?

Thanks!

It depends! It depends on the competitiveness of the course and the appetite for international students - so hard sciences - not a chance, the competition is too high, ASNAC - smaller applicant pool, it might be OK. But also, your niche - if you have a very niche interest, and you did well in that element of the course, then perhaps it can work.

If you are in the department, you should just ask though. Frame it in terms of 'I realise my grades might not be competitive here, but what are my options, where would you recommend I try etc' and if there is a hope in the Dept, they will say so, but you aren't directly asking for a hard yes/no.

If you look at admissions statistics, on average 99% of offer holders have a First.

What statistics? Not my experience on two different Masters programmes.

It's not true. I know people who have got into masters degrees with a 2.2 at undergrad, and even someone without an undergrad degree. There is simply no way on average 99% of PG acceptances have 1sts - even overlooking the clear misunderstanding of how averages work!

Got into Oxford for an MSt with a borderline high 2:1 and first on undergrad dissertation. I was not the only one in my cohort to get in with a high 2:1. Also had friends applying with firsts that got rejected. It's harder but not impossible at all.
