Does a non paid tuition foundation year count as a spent year of funding?

Hi,

Basically my question is about whether or not if I am studying currently an undergraduate course and I am in my foundation year but the student finance does not provide tuition fees for this year, will it count as a spent year if I switch to another degree after my foundation year?

Hi there, Yes, any years of previous study even if self funded counts as previous study. Thanks, Angela

I see, however am I wrong in assuming that this only affects tuition fee funding? In other words, is maintenance loan still available every year as long as you haven’t earned an undergraduate degree?

Hi again.

Sorry for abruptly asking further questions. I have completed an HND as of last year and due to me starting a course from year 0 (foundation year) since I could not find any other courses I was wondering if I will still be qualified for funding? I have not received my qualification if that is relevant information. As for as I know I do not hold a degree technically but nonetheless I should ask. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

What course are you looking to study now? Is this full time or part time?

Thanks,

Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. This means if your new course is for example 3 years and you have done 1 year previous study, the calculation would be 3+1=4-1=3 years of finance for your new course.

Thanks,
Claire

Ah okay but the fact I have done an HND does not disqualify me completely for funding when starting a bachelors? Just simply is considered as previous study? Is that correct?
Hi waklaslek,

Yes, that is correct.

Thanks,
