Hi @Lilianabd

It's great to hear that you're interested in our Business Management degree!

Where will you be commuting from? Cost and time travelling to and from university will be a big factor for you, so it's important to think about the journey to each university to see if any work out better than others. We have some information for UoC commuting students which may be of interest to you - https://www.chester.ac.uk/student-life/commuting-students/. Also, one of our student ambassadors, Jess, has written a blog about making friends at university as a commuting student - https://www.chester.ac.uk/about/news/articles/making-friends-as-a-commuting-student/.

Have you visited any of these universities during Open Days? We would certainly recommend visiting at least 2 if possible. Visiting in person will give you a real feel for the university and therefore may help you to decide which ones to choose. You'll also be able to see what the journey there is like.

If you have any questions about commuting, or studying at Chester just let us know 🙂

Best wishes,
Becky
i would choose the university that has the people to connect you to your dream profession

Hi @Lilianabd,

Great to hear that you are interested in studying at UCLan! I would suggest visiting our open day on the 30 November. This allows you get a feel for the university and get answers for any questions you may have. 🙂

As you mentioned commuting, I would take that into account too. Trains can often be unreliable so I would check which university's are closer to you but also don't just base it off this. Here's some information about commuting on our website: Local and commuter students - UCLan

Our business management course is great so I would definitely come to an open day to find out more. You can also find out more here: Business and Management Degree Course - UCLan

Hope this helps! 🙂

Hi @Lilianabd

It's great to hear that you're interested in studying at Manchester Met!

BA (Hons) Business Management is based within our triple accredited business school and you'll have the option to take part in a placement or study abroad year, as well as take part in our RISE programme to learn new skills.

I recommend coming along to our next undergraduate open day on 23rd November to get a feel for the campus, attend taster lectures and ask tutors any questions you might have🙂

As other uni reps have rightly mentioned in this thread, please consider how long it would take you to travel to each uni, how easy it would be and the cost. For example, one might be a direct train that takes 1 hour, whereas another might be a train and two buses that takes 45 minutes. It's a good idea to do some research (either on maps or by trying out the commute) to see how you feel about it and which feels right for you. You can find some useful information about commuting to university here and here.

I hope you find this information helpful, please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions you have!

Hi @Lilianabd,

I see you have already had an excellent response from another UCLan Ambassador!

I'd love to add on and share my experience as a Business and Management student.

I have found the teaching quality here to be excellent. I'd never studied business before this, however the course structure ensured everyone developed a strong foundation before learning more complex ideas. Also, I found tutors are extremely responsive whenever I need assistance, I just pop a quick message on teams and I'm always given the help I need.

When studying business here, the course is very malleable to your learning style. Whether you prefer to just get on with your work and show your tutor every so often to ensure your on the right track, or you wish to have more guidance and assistance. It's your choice to have a more hands on or less hands on style!

Here are some other great things that are offered:

Placement year

Careers Advice

Support starting up your own business (I've personally used this to start a clothing brand)

Job fairs

Across your degree you will learn various types of management, which gives you great flexibility for the type of manger you wish to be!

Finally, I'd thought I'd add that UCLan was rated 1st in the North West for their Business and Management course for teaching quality (The Times, 2023).

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (Business and Management)
Hi! I can see that you have had some great responses above from the different universities that you are considering, which is a massive help I'm sure!

First of all, I would definitely recommend visiting Open Days for each of your choices. LJMU's upcoming Open Days are on the 8th of November and the 16th of November. They are a great opportunity to get a feel for the campuses and to learn more about your course. Hopefully we will see you at one 🙂

I will also reiterate the importance of considering your commute time for each of your choices. Research on transport links to and from your city of choice, the cost of travel, timescale etc. Liverpool has some great travel links across the country which makes it super straightforward to get to and from our city!

LJMU is a great university, having recently been voted No. 1 UK student city (Student Crowd, 2023), 2nd in the UK (Uni Compare - UK University Rankings 2025) and 4th in the North West for a positive student experience (Times Higher Education National Student Survey rankings, 2024)! 95% of our graduates are in work or further study 15 months after they graduate according to the Graduate Outcomes Survey 2023. Based in a brilliant city full of things to do, LJMU is an engaging learning environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
Though I am sure you have already read up about your chosen degree, you can read further here. Business management at LJMU is a well-accredited degree with an excellent employment record with graduates 'securing graduate-level positions with leading employers in public and private sectors'.

LJMU also offers amazing on and off campus support from our dedicated student advice and wellbeing sector. Our academic staff, from lecturers to personal tutors, are dedicated to their subjects and strive to ensure students are happy and thriving in their studies.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to reach out 🙂 good luck!
