how to get work experience in the automotive industry?

Help. I want to study mechanical engineering at university and I want to do some work experience in the automotive engineering field to help me later on, but I don't know where to start?

Think of companies near you in the automotive industry - or not near you if you are willing to travel. Look at their websites to see if the offer work experience - remember they may not have opened applications yet. If they don’t publicise work experience email them - the worst they can say is no. You could be lucky or you could not. With finding work experience it is a bit of a lottery of what is near by. You can do it! Good luck.

Hi @Nick Rantlantis

To gain work experience in automotive engineering, start by researching major automotive companies like BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, and Toyota, as well as smaller firms or startups. Check your university’s careers office for internship opportunities and use platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor to find openings. Attend career fairs, engineering events, and motorsport competitions such as Formula Student to network and discover opportunities. Join professional organizations like IMechE for access to industry connections, and consider part-time or volunteer roles in automotive repair or design. Being proactive and persistent will help you secure valuable experience for your future career. Good luck.

Hey there , I agree with what everyone has said so far . All that information is true and relevant but I'd just like to add that also attending engineering events and networking will help too. I've attended a few like the advanced engineering one in October , it would've been a great place for you to meet with companies in the automotive industry and ask about placement or possible unpaid internships to give you some more experience .
If you can attend any similar events I would strongly recommend .
I hope this helps !
