Nope, you just go along to a donation session and they can do it all there for you.

Go along, wait in line, go up when you're called, they say "have you given blood before?", you say "nope", you fill in a form about whether you're gay or you come from Africa (there's a load of yes/no questions like this), you hand it over, they jab you in the thumb (which in my opinion hurts more than the needle they use for taking blood), then you give blood, then you get a FREE BISCUIT AND CUP OF JUICE!!!!!!!!!!11!1!

So it's all worth it in the end.

Only if it's a very busy city donation centre will they ask you to make an appointment. Usually there are two two hour slots in a day at the same venue.

Really? I usually go for the tunnock's tea-cake or some nice shortbread. Bread sticks? How cheap

I would love to give blood but I am such a wimp when it comes to needles. Leave me in a room full of big hariy spiders and I'm fine, come near me with a needle.
Arrgghh!!!! There is alot of wonderful peeps out there that step up and are alot braver than me. Well done to each and everyone of you, cos one day I may need your help.

...and one day someone may need yours .

I don't think fear of needles is a good enough reason not to give blood, sorry. It really is much more important than that.

I know what you are saying.
I get panic attacks and just generally freak out. It all stems from when I was little and I just can't get past it at the moment, I have tried several times.

I think it's something that has to be tried...go once, come out feeling ill etc, don't go again, but at least you know you tried and wanted to but you can't...and if you do suceed, that's great as well.
